According to what I understand it is more of a lightweight hybrid system like the Porsche 911 hybrid, which also only adds about 50 HP. I think it makes sense for the GR GT to avoid weighing 2,3 tons being a PHEV.
Good point, I hadn't considered that. I was just thinking performance hybrid like the E-Ray, but this clearly wouldn't be that if lightweight is the intention

Lighter weight hybrid tech derived from their racing program would be pretty cool. I've wondered if LFR = "R" to represent racing and motorsports?

Rooting for them to have this car have a Lexus badge and continue the F program is my wish. I have heard that LF-R is not the name of the car and i wonder if any development has been made on the Lexus iterations name. It is a great name and since this is not the LFA 2 makes sense has this car is the first track-to-street development after learning tons from their RCF GT3 program. After all the LF-A was not the intended name of that car and they just went with it the project name as the final choice funny enough. It might just happen with the LF-R.

Another article to add to the bunch...
Insiders also said that the Toyota GR Supra was going to merely be the "GR Supra", with GR being the make, and Supra being the model.

Didn't happen, and it will be f*cking braindead of Toyota to do the same here (with the only logical exception being that they bring every single one of their sports cars under a completely separate GR brand, and not a motorsports division of Toyota), so this is not going to happen.

Next.

So, what exactly is this car? First, it was called the LFR, then it was mentioned as the GR Sport, and now they’re saying both Toyota and Lexus will have their own versions of it. It’s so confusing, and I bet Toyota and Lexus are just as unclear about it as we are.

Maybe Lexus version has the full system with hybrid while the GR is just the TTV8?

Luxury leanings vs performance experience
Continental vs 911

My expectation has always been multiple models derived or benefitting from the GT3 platform work.

I imagine these are the first two?

You can imagine the conversations about this car. Intense doesn’t describe it. What is wonderful is the passion for this project and the people fighting for Lexus.
Stop edging us please.

Who is fighting for Lexus? What is their goal? If there's anyone fighting for Lexus then they'd start addressing all the problems people here have been mentioning.

I'm certainly fighting for Lexus branded F car to be the flagship. And lot of people that head to the track with their F cars are also!! You better be giving feedback man lol!!

Crazy part is we own a MK5 Supra and when i go to meets nobody calls it a GR Supra they call it a MK5 Supra or a BMW. lol I have never heard a person call it a GR Supra. The only car i have heard GR labeled that in the scene are the Corrolla scene. The GR brand in NA is my view is not there as a performance band in terms of a moniker most dont get it who are not fans even as niche as Lexus is people in the car scene know a F car or a M car or a AMG but i have never seen someone say oh thats a GR car. I really hope they dont over overcomplicate the GR brand they must come to terms at some point with its limitations at some point in some markets. GR holds major weight in Japan but in NA/EU its just not there to be segmented.
