Lexus Compact Crossover Concept Coming to Tokyo Auto Show, Production Model in Early 2014

According to Automotive News, Lexus will debut a production-ready compact crossover at next year’s Geneva Motor Show:

The hybrid model, which will be based on parent company Toyota’s RAV4 compact SUV, will slot below the current Lexus RX 450h and become the automaker’s first offering in the fast-growing premium medium SUV segment, the source said.

At this year’s Detroit auto show, Lexus chief Kazuo Ohara said a concept version of the SUV would be unveiled at the Tokyo auto show in November.

Considering the pace of the rumormill over the last few months, this news doesn’t come as a complete shock — Lexus has long needed a compact crossover in the lineup, and it’s exciting to think it will be revealed in less than a year.

(I guess those spy shots from last year was a Lexus CUV prototype after all.)

Hmm... It bodes well for Lexus to test a mule with a Toyota body. For fun, Lexus could have at least drawn a huge spindle grille in the front. haha

If it won't be "Production-ready" until Geneva, then the US won't see it until next year's New York Auto Show, and it wouldn't hit the streets until Summer/Fall of 2014 Wonder if this means Toyota will not add the Camry hybrid to the Rav4, and save the Hybrid for the Lexus only? BD

I guess it won't change anything in the Middle East .. Because already MOST of the people in the Middle East just JUMP to Lexus LX-Class and people rarely go for the RX.

The LX is superior! The only reason people buy RX is much cheaper than LX

I just hope the Lexus Turbo engine will be more reliable than the others (although i doubt it, as there are no miracles whatsoever in this universe). All those small turbo mills are really expensive to maintain after 150.000 km. Full of problems.

Toyota has many reliable turbocharged engines in their lineup. The JZ series and the 3S-GTE to name a few. Reliablity shouldn't be an issues.

True, but those are massive cast iron blocks. The new engine will be a thinned out aluminum piece. And the turbocharged JZ and 3S engines were relatively scarce, well maintained, driven by enthusiast on weekends.

I just hope it's at least half as cool as the Range Rover Evoque. Or maybe a pumped up rugged CT styled Small SUV. Lexus doesn't need another generic Japanese styled small SUV.

The RX350 is almost a flawless & perfect car in many ways. Very hard to beat it.
