Could it be that culture clashes (working with German BMW engineers with their own way of doing things vs Toyota) and rumored contract manufacturing of Supra and Z4 at Magna Steyr in Austria, by their nature, make things go slower than if Mk5 Supra had been a solo Toyota project?

I also assume the challenges of making the Supra look like the FT Concept. It seems since the FT Concept was so well received they had no choice but to develop it. We heard some of the challenges of making the LC come to light looking much like the concept.

Have A Look Inside The 2019 Toyota Supra & Spy Shots on the Ring

Gone are the old BMW Z4-sourced parts as this prototype has Toyota's own components.

As we are inching closer to the much-awaited world premiere of the reborn Toyota Supra, spy shots are getting more and more revealing with each batch. The latest images showing a near-production prototype tackling the Nürburgring allow us to take a peek inside the cabin of the two-seater coupe with its own bits and pieces. Previous test vehicles caught by our spies had most of the interior components borrowed from the old BMW Z4.

We get the rare opportunity to see the digital driver’s display and the design of the leather-wrapped steering wheel, which isn’t necessarily very exciting to be brutally honest. Behind it are the silver shift paddles for the automatic transmission set to be the sole offering as Toyota recently said the 2019 Supra does not need a manual gearbox and that’s why it probably won’t get one.

The infotainment screen appears to be sitting high on the center console, above the air vents and the physical controls for the climate settings. To some extent, the look of the dashboard resembles the layout seen last year in the Z4 concept, which could be a sign the two cars will share a good chunk of the interior parts as well. This nifty photo comparison below illustrates the similarities, especially when it comes down to the appearance of the center console:

Although the Z4 and Supra will share the platform, both BMW and Toyota have promised the cars will be very different from one another. From what we know so far about the Supra, aside from the aforementioned lack of a manual, it will feature a 50:50 weight distribution and a pure two-seat layout. The long-rumored hybrid powertrain might not make the cut, but a beefier version with Gazoo Racing branding could arrive further down the line as hinted by the racy concept car shown last month in Geneva.

Toyota is expected to unveil the new Supra sometime this fall, following the BMW Z4’s debut in the summer. Both cars will likely share the assembly line at Magna Steyr’s factory in Graz, Austria.

It’s worth mentioning the Supra could very well be one of the most popular cars shot by spy photographers taking into account the first batch of photos dates back to September 7, 2016 and a quick search in the database shows plenty of other sets have emerged since then.

How it would look if the fake vent panel was blended into the door.

Thats what happens when they try to graft the FT-1's design and styling cues onto a smaller car with similar proportion to the MK4 and Z4.

The "Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept" Comes to Gran Turismo Sport! Be Among the First Drivers to Experience its Awesome Performance!
04/27/2018

Performance-car enthusiasts everywhere rejoiced when Toyota unveiled a new version of the Supra at the Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland back on March 6, 2018. Officially called the "Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept," this sleek machine was not a production concept, but rather a racing one, meaning its performance surpasses anything we had been anticipating about a possible revived Supra. And now, you can strap yourself in the driver's seat and sample the car for yourself, as it is included with the free Gran Turismo Sport update released on April 27.

Although the car had been discontinued for a few decades, the Toyota Supra remains a Japanese sports-car icon. As past models are now becoming collector cars, the GR Supra Racing Concept revives the legend and provides a glimpse of what may come in the future in terms of the next production-model Supra.

The Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept possesses classic sports-car dimensions, characterized by a long nose and short rear deck that envelops a front-engine/rear-wheel drive layout. It possesses flared front and rear fenders, and a large rear wing, making it look as if it can carve up any racetrack in the world.

The makers of Gran Turismo Sport have faithfully recreated the exciting exterior appearance of the Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept, and also its minimalist interior, which features a racing cockpit complete with rear view monitor. Be among the first people in the world to sample the performance of this resurrected legend in Gran Turismo Sport!

Well at least Toyota has been consistently good at making video game cars because, you know, you just need to type in a number to make a car super fast.

I know it's a joke, but Gran Turismo doesn't work that way. They blow a *lot* of math on detailed car models so they perform like in real life.

If there was a choice, what would you chose: Supra with BMW FI I6 or with Lexus NA V8?

A quote from a SF member.

FirstStateCamber said:
In speaking with a person who has seen the car in person for about 45min, they claimed the following...

1. Its very close to the overall sizing of the MKIV
2. The side profile and rear is distinctly paying homage to the MKIV
3. The motor in this muel car may be one derived from the 340i, but hard to tell
4. The Interior was made of higher line materials.
5. The hood is a half clam shell opening in standard rearward fashion.
6. The piece on the door is nothing more then a styling addition
7. They wouldn't comment on the trans, possible future high line optional powerplants, etc...

Lawd they better live up to the hype...

For Comparison's sake the GT-R did take quite some time to reappear and so the the NSX. Both actually went through different conceptual bodies. The Supra has stayed intact.

Really hoping some crazy 500hp plus version comes.....

SupraMKV's mod attended a meeting with Toyota and this is what he can say.

Lollll, I'm alive guysss! I made it out of there unscathed haha.

It was a good meeting, not a ton of new information or anything. But as usual, I can't really say much. :(

Main point of the meeting was more to talk about the community, demographics and general outlook as the Product Planning/PR teams ramp up for launch.

Couple takeaways:
-Don't believe everything you see/read on the internet
-A lot of stuff on the test mules is not finalized
-There are a lot of small design elements that are still being tested
-This car is not a muscle car, nor is it a GTR killer. It will be a sports car that will impress really anyone that drives it, especially compared to cars in its price class.
-The MKIV is constantly on the mind of the designers and engineers, they know the expectations, the market, and most importantly, the hype. Don't think that they're in the dark about any of the details when it comes to the MKIV and it's place in the automotive world.

Didn't get much more than that and sadly no scoops! I am trying to get my ass into one of those new Corollas though... :D

I will continue to be in contact with the team at Toyota and try to get as much info as I can going forward. :headbang:
