That is actually such a shame. The North American market deserves the true Final Edition GR Supra. Color me disappointed.

Well that's lame.

Also tire spats on the front bumper look completely out of place without a proper track splitter to compliment it.

I understand the co development of vehicles, but treating a BMW rebadge like the apex of your performance offerings is embarassing.

What a shameless company. Why don't you cowards put some effort into life. That company is run by out of touch, well connected, mediocre nepo charity cases.

Pro tip: overpaid, socially dependant mediocre people make great executives if you only care about controlling people and putting in de facto proxies and liability shields.

If all you care about is corner cutting and "good enough" and "continuous improvement", who cares about having top performers do top quality work? Sandbag your progress and pretend youre better than other companies for it.

It also explains to some extent their low salaries. It makes it so that only the already rich would want to be there longer term, and for clout, not results.

The entire company is a life support system for Japanese aristocracy.

I hate that this is so true. Between the V35A-FTS and the 2UR-GSE, as well as GA-L and whatever rumored "next gen" RWD platforms were in development, it's hard to believe that Toyota couldn't have done some of this on their own... especially considering that the FT-1 Concept and LC 500 were somewhat co-developed, then the FT-1 design was later revised to fit on the Z4 chassis. I also think the "We did it so we could keep an I6 for Supra heritage," argument was a complete lie and cop out, especially since we now know the MKVI is going to be a 4-cylinder. While there is a lot of love for the B58, most people I know wanted a Toyota engine and didn't care as much about the configuration.

GA-L would have probably been too heavy or expensive, but I still think Toyota had the resources to build their own Supra if they wanted to-- and look, they're doing it right now preparing for the A100. It could have had aspects of co-development with a next-gen RC or IS, but I guess when Toyota pulled the plug on Lexus performance products and ICE, that might have killed any idea of co-development.

If there was a real MKV Toyota Supra, I might have gotten that over my IS 500 or RC F. I've driven plenty of GR Supras and I know they're great cars, but they're very different from the A80 and they drive more like BMWs than Toyota Supras. The A90 is a fairly rough and frenetic car to live with every day... the A80 was always smoother and more of a GT car that was also a very capable sports coupe. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the A90 happened, but it was never a car I would buy.

With Tesuya Tada retired (86/Supra father) things will be easier for the next Supra with the I-4. Tada san insisted on an I-6 and when he wasn’t given the money for a new one well BMW was the obvious partner. Tada San was adamant an I-6 was vital to the Supra’s heritage even if it was shared with BMW.

As I’ve gotten older, the sharing of engines doesn’t bug me as much. Range Rover uses the BMW V-8 and no one bats an eye. Aston uses the Benz V-8 and no one bats an eye. The issue with the Supra seems to be more it was platform shared as well with BMW, not just the engine being borrowed.

That said the car sold well and actually reviewed very well. The new Nissan Z is good but lost every battle to it .Mind you the Z is a substantial refresh not all new. The Z is also much cheaper at 42k for the 400hp V-6 where the Supra was offering the 250hp or so I-4. Is the next Supra going to be around the same price or 100k cause it’s on its own? Price killed the MKIV. as it claimed fast. 50k for a Supra or 50kn for a SC? Not a great proposition.

Which leads to price. The Supra wasn’t crazy expensive in a world where 100k is the new 50k. If Toyota does it on its own, will he be an accepted loss leader or can they figure out how to make a profit with a low volume coupe. With no immediate next gen Supra available I worry for its future.

In other news Nissan seems to be bringing a V36 but likely will be very expensive. Honda said an electric NSX was coming but maybe that changed with EV mandates going away.

This is a huge reason why I think the A90 was an excellent vehicle. A monster that punched way above its weight and will be sorely missed.
