I don't even know why they sell that FWD Luxury, or the FWD at all? Who is going to buy it?

For ppl that don't do their homework?

RX 350 Luxury FWD7.6 sec (0-60 MPH)25 MPG (combined)$59,080
RX 350h Luxury AWD7.4 sec36 MPG$60,930
RX 500h FSP AWD5.9 sec27 MPG$63,800
X5 sDrive40i 5.3 sec (0-60 MPH)25 MPG (combined)$65,200

I'm also kind of surprised by the fact that it comes with a 4 cyl that does not get any better mpg or performance than a buttery smooth, highly praised v6 while costing nearly the same starting price lol.

isn't sDrive a RWD? some of us can't use / don't want that. By selecting everything as default (NO options) it is $66,195. If I selected xDrive then it's $68,495.

Please don't fool us by posting inaccurate info.

FWD is very popular for value conscious buyers in the sun belt who just don’t need AWD.
Maybe, be saving 2K for not getting AWD and then losing more than that on resale value compare to AWD is not a smart buying decision.

Sure. It just needs to be cheaper is all I'm saying.

OK add another one grand two grand but it doesn't change the fact that it's priced way higher than where it's supposed to be. Keep in mind 450h+ costs a staggering 70k starting msrp......for that asking price I'd rather get either an IS500 or spend an extra 10k for a base LS500.

We can say that for sure but the average Lexus shopper is still very value conscious. If this wasn’t the case, I’m sure they would love to build them all AWD and streamline the process.

What does the feature content look like on a base RWD X5 versus the RX350 luxury? Adding actual leather seats (via premium package) puts the X5 up over $71k. The RX needs ML to get on par feature wise putting it at $59k.

Base X5 I can find ranges from 66k all the way to 85k fully loaded, be it RWD or AWD. Most are hovering around 73k -75k but you can still easily find them for under 70k. Meanwhile the base RX sits around 51k poverty specs to 69k Luxury.
At 55k is where I think makes the most sense for the RX. As soon as you go toward 60k and above, price gap between the two becomes so little it would look silly not spending extra for the one with superior powertrain and dynamics.

Ah yes, the buyer with FWD crossovers on their shopping list also cares about chassis dynamics. If someone even has a FWD crossover on their radar, they don't care about 0-60 times or how a vehicle reacts in a corner at the limit.

But everyone cares about money, which is why the $12k cheaper (spec for spec similar from Lexus.com and BMWUSA.com) RX does have a place in the market even though the X5 exists. To be perfectly honest, the RX is probably competing more with the similarly priced X3, which would be around $55k comparably equipped. But, for that $5k cost up to get the RX, the buyer is getting a larger vehicle. It probably makes good business sense for Lexus to basically hit the gaps compared to the RWD competition.

I don't think you are representing pricing very accurately. The RX is typically in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Only the plug-in hybrid is $70k. In fact, the next highest RX trim starts at under $64k. Most RX buyers will be paying $8-10k less for a comparably equipped vehicle.

Let’s also not forget data years ago showed most BMW buyers didn’t know their cars were RWD or FWD.. And the gap continues to shrink. This isn’t 2004 when the X5 was a badass thing and the RX was a boat. Today the X5 has moved to comfort and the RX to sport. And an X5 without the sport package is not much more engaging than an awd RX around town.

60k isn’t that big of a deal for the RX. Our old 2016 RX was 62k. I think a loaded 450h was 65k. So the prices are pretty good today considering it is a better vehicle.

So MB's approach to PHEV is throw in batteries with no regard to chassis and suspension stress. That midsize unibody chassis has almost no margins left carrying 2680kg empty. That's heavier than most full size BOF trucks. And let's not forget on a long highway trip with no SOC left this thing has lower power-to-weight-ratio than a Yaris.

A mass market car should never be tuned to bottom out on normal roads and normal speeds carrying one passenger. This is disposable garbage and I'm sure some ignorant MB owner will take it to a trail and see the car disintegrate.

It iswild it was 1000 lbs heavier. Qualifies for a business credit now tho lol. I honestly like the current generation ML a lot.

Same thing with Mercedes' latest gen of PHEV AMGs, they heavily focus on advertising the combined output of the powertrains and quietly push aside the respective power outputs of the engine and electric motor, the ridiculously high weight of these cars and what happens when that stinking battery runs out of juice. Mercs these days really are BS over substance kind of cars.
