If Subaru still knows how to make full use of the hardware they have in their parts bin, they should build a turbo awd coupe, using the BRZ's platform as a starting point to work with.

Yes, this an awd BRZ and its awd layout is basically the same as any other awd Subaru:

In All Japan Rally, Subaru, despite being a factory team, is constantly losing to a bunch of private teams, because the WRX is way too big and heavy to be competitive.

And the intercooler/radiator are in front of where the OEM bumper skin would be. Not to mention no crash bar. Add about 8-12" to the front overhang of the BRZ to accommodate AWD.

No big loss, IMO. Subaru's AWD layout is now a detriment when it comes to performance driving. Having the entire mass of the engine fore of the front axles is not great. This was less of an issue when there were very marginal crash test standards in the 90s and 00s, but since then the advantages of their AWD system have waned versus the competition and the rotational inertia liabilities have accumulated.

Next year debut feels like it's unusually soon, is it because the current gen can't pass the latest EU safety regulations, so they want to replace it ASAP?

G16E plus hybrid?? Does that mean no more manual? I’m not sure I’m onboard with all that. In my mind, the GR86 is supposed to be the cheap, entry level sports coupe. This sounds expensive. G16E, manual, and rear drive would be perfect. Keep it simple.

I wonder what platform this will use?
