Lexus to Replace Interior Trunk Releases in 2007-2013 ES, 2006-2012 IS & 2013 GS

According to Consumer Reports, Lexus is expected to announce a customer service campaign to fix the emergency trunk release in the 2007-2013 Lexus ES, 2006-2012 Lexus IS, and 2013 Lexus GS.

The issue, which affects approximately 700,000 vehicles, was discovered by Consumer Reports in October and is best explained by this video:

To correct the problem, Lexus is replacing the ABS plastic release with a stronger polypropylene latch.

Lexus will inform affected owners by mail, who will be asked to bring their vehicle into the dealership for the free fix. The customer service campaign announcement is expected to start in late January.

I don't know why they need this feature in the U.S.  I never accidentally fell into a trunk.
