The trunk's mechanism is something that I always not-quite-like on Toyota/Lexus , it's just a simple mechanism when some other much cheaper car have complicated mechanism there ... simple mechanism made it feel cheap on development (although it's reliable) .

I totally agree with you. My LS 430 and the previous GS felt much more solid and luxurious. My BMW does as well. I am pretty disappointed with my new GSs trunk lid, it just feels cheap when opening and closing it. At least the ES has a power option.

I haven't saw new GS's trunk mechanism though , not even previous GS & LS430 ... mainly because I barely saw Lexus with trunk open , lol .

I can't believe the USA didn't option the power-closing trunk -- we have it here in Canada.

What is the small square bump on top of the trunklid for?

That is part of the satellite receiver because the top of that ES is glass because its an ultra luxury model.

So there are two receivers? I thought the sharkfin was the only receiver needed.

I believe the satellite radio receiver needs to be grounded to metal in order to work.

So yes, there are two receivers, one GPS, one satellite radio.
