LC500 convertible seems to puts down similar performance numbers as the coupe. It weighs pretty much the same. The chassis was already so rigid enough that it did not need any further strengthening due to the chopped roof. Typically, convertibles are about 400 - 500 lbs heavier than the coupe, but Lexus made the convertible the same weight as the coupe. Lexus did a great job with it.

Hard to blame Lexus for killing F and anything "enthusiastic", when Doug names the vid with a negative connotation 'nobody will buy'. I do not know how can one feel cool not to have something cool. German Badge S******. Sometimes I'd like to make YT vids too, to bring some balance back, with "cr*p cars everyone wants to buy and thinks are cool", but no point losing sleep. Even Mercedes has announced going to Lexus way. It is the end anyway, get the LC while possible, then change hobby/passion. "Car enthusiasm" will be a thing of the past soon. I have no interest being part of those.

As much as it sounds negative, Doug has a point.

Will there be enough sales of the LC? We saw what happened to LC sales...a lot of people like the LC, even the press. But the number of handraisers and Internet folks that went in and bought one is different. The LC is definitely an aspirational Lexus vehicle, but did it really help the brand sell more ES and RX models? At 100K, its the uber rich that are really in the market for them, and there's a lot less loyalty to a brand at the price point; these buyers have many cars to choose from. Right now a $100K SUV is an easier sell than a luxury car.

Doug drives a Kia Stinger they can’t give away at 30k. So he can save me his opinion on sales.

The fact is the LC initial sales target was super super aggressive. It didn’t meet it as it was just too high a Target. The car is still selling in decent numbers.

Tbh I’m not sure what a good goal is. FYI BMW dealers are very upset at the 8 series because they can’t sell it. Too expensive and just misses the look.

Not a review per se, but a Lexus Europe Newsroom interview with LC Convertible Chief Designer Tadao Mori and Chief Engineer Yasushi Muto notes that "the first soft-top Lexus (was developed) in close collaboration with specialist supplier Magna in Austria to achieve the perfect results". Magna, as most of you know, is also in charge of Toyota Supra manufacture.

The otherwise boilerplate interview ends with this passage:

And will there be more Lexus convertibles in the future? “If you want one, just tell us!” says Muto.

Sure, I'd want a more affordable one, but in the current climate of canceled V8s and LC F and interminably delayed next-gen crossovers and SUVs (not to mention German rivals whittling down their Byzantine model lineups), I'm hardly expecting Lexus to come up with another one.

Well Lexus did want to bring a RC Convertible but dealers wanted a RX L. And we see what we have now. The entire point of the RC having a mid IS convertible chassis was for a convertible. So much for that idea.

I got to sit in one at my nearest international auto show. It was just simply gorgeous, I wish they had brought the tan interior, or the red/black, it was hard to see everything in the all black interior. I wish I could've heard it running.

I'm in my 20s, so I am clearly not the target demographic of this car, but if I had $100k to drop on a new vehicle, this would be it.
