The models with the Lexus spelled out afterthought (NX, LX now ES) doesn't look as good as the models that were designed with the spelled out in mind (RX, RZ, TX, GX).

Rear-ending a truck box is a very realistic and extremely dangerous scenario. The test is conducted using a national standard guard bar which provides much better protection than guard bars used in real world trucks. If a car fails the test against the standard bar, it's guaranteed to have very bad consequences in a real collision.

What's weird is IIHS only tests guard bars not the other way around. The standard test vehicle is a Chevrolet Malibu so maybe they are assuming if a relatively old sedan can survive the test, most other cars on the market also can.
