The industrial standard before everyone starts arbitrarily assigning numbers to their products is assuming 60kW/L, and for a very long time Lexus numbering were actually consistent with that number. Divide power in kW by 60, round down to nearest 50 get ICEV rating, round up for HEV/PHEV/BEV rating.Lexus has no idea what "500" should actually be.
472hp (IS 500, LC 500, RC F)
416hp (LS 500)
366hp (RX 500h FSP)
354hp (LS 500h)
348hp (ES 500e)
Some sort of standard is needed.
IMO:
LS 500 should be LS 450
RX 500h should be RX 400h
LS 500h should be LS 400h
ES 500e should be ES 400e
Lexus keeps stacking numbers into the names like they assume no gains from technology and innovation since 1998. IMO LX "700h" is ridiculous to not even be cracking 500hp. LX should be LX 500 and LX 550h, GX 550 should be GX 450 and GX 550h should be GX 400h.
The majority of positive comments I see are from tesla owners and fans. Probably the first time they looked at a Lexus.
Tesla and Elon has absolutely ruined and destroyed the car industry. From design to cult status to crap quality to 3 colors to some basic ass refrigerator transportation methodology. It is ruining cars. .
The 2.5L 300h is to comply with EU7 emissions. It will be replaced by the 1.5T which will restore the output to 250PS.Last night I've realized that the only hybrid option for the EU will be the 300h. 201 hp for a 1800kg sedan. It's less than the current generation's 218 hp. What the actual **** they are smoking at Lexus HQ. It's sibling, the 2025 Camry has more power......
I'm sure it'll feel wonderful for future ES owners that their "flagship" is being smoked by a peasent Camry.
Shame because I actually like the design and I was trying to be positive about it (even the interior), but **** that. This, -priced in the class of A6, 5-series and E-class- is certainly DOA in Europe. It's like they're not even trying.
Comparing the ES to the greatest Japanese (and Asian by extent) athlete in history is such a tasteless comment. Only the R32 GT-R, or gen1 NSX, or LFA deserve to be compared with Shohei Ohtani.Chief Designer Kumai was involved in the design of FAW Toyota Crown. Kumai believes that although the new ES has changed a lot, it still respects the traditional design of ES, and there are some similarities between the new and old. For example, the previous generation was Shohei Otani in Japan, and the new generation was Shohei Otani after going to the United States (baseball fans can explain).
Several takeaways from this press event that haven't been covered elsewhere:
"President Akio Toyoda said something very inspiring for the present and the future: I hope Lexus becomes the ultimate choice for customers after they have experienced everything. People (the rest of the industry) will experiment with all kinds of new technology and experiences, but will ultimately return to the essence. This is something we need to have a grasp on".“丰田章男会长说过对现在和未来很有启发的一句话:希望雷克萨斯是用户‘阅尽千帆之后的最终选择’,大家可以尝试各种各样新鲜的技术,各种各样新的体验,但最终将回归本质,这是我们现在要去抓住的。”
Tell me it's not the 3-cylinder 1.5 turbo. If so, then it's even more fucked than it was before. What's the source on this? The 2.5L 300h is to comply with EU7 emissions. It will be replaced by the 1.5T which will restore the output to 250PS.
A sampling of comments I saw on a singleFB post about the new ES ... my favourite comment is about how the steering wheel of the new ES looks like it was taken from a Ford Econoline van.
Just hope Lexus is listening to the initial feedback.

It's not even the spelled out "Lexus" that's the issue. It's probaly how the middle of the steering wheel is made out of a single piece of plastic instead of the detailed, elegant solution they used in the LS and the current ES.My quick PS......I dunno but something still looks off.......it just doesn't look very "Lexus"

Are we going to conveniently forget that the TX and Grand Highlander got an Acceptable instead of a Good rating for IIHS' small overlap front crash test, which IMO is a big red flag for a car that debut in 2023, while the CX-90 got Top Safety Pick+. It's not just about how they drive.I am behind on two reviews and this is what honestly shocked me. The RWD based CX90 honestly wasn’t much if any sportier than the FWD based TX 350. It certainly is less fun than the TX 500h. It was a hard pill for me to swallow (no diddy) as I prefer RWD. Any differences were negligible. What also shocked me was the I-6 wasn’t much faster or better performing than the I-4. I just wasn’t blown away by the Mazda with performance. MPG was good and inside and out it’s the better looking and more luxurious product.
The Genesis reviews are similar. The G70 is sporty as GV70 when properly equipped but the other models while RWD are more 1990s LS than anything. RWD but not really sporty. The G80 “ coupe” reviews all have lackluster ride and handling points.
I’m not making excuses for Lexus but technology has improved with platforms and AWD so much I highly doubt the average consumer knows or cares about FWD or RWD.

I think the screen looks much better this way. The only thing I would change is to raise it bit so it would be closer to the driver's line of sight, but a screen of this aspect ratio definitely fits better and improves the overall look of the interior. It feels less "tacked-on".Along with the L E X U S logo, I "tweaked" the display to make it look more stretched out with BMW's idrive 8 (two major complaints ppl had with this interior).
Does it look more pleasing XDD?

Funny how the current Camry has no problem performing well in the latest IIHS crash test format, despite looking like it's just a facelift of the previous gen Camry on the surface. Even the rear passenger safety of the NX and RX aren't as good as the Camry lol.
