LBX coming to the US??? 👀

I will believe it when and if I see it. If the UX does not sell in North America because of its small size, will something smaller from Lexus sell here? I highly doubt it. The LBX is based on the Yaris Cross, which Toyota does not sell in North America because something the size of the Yaris is too small for North American tastes.

I think that Lexus should base the UX on the Corolla Touring (the station wagon version of the Corolla) with its longer wheelbase, rather than base it on the Toyota CH-R which was cancelled in North America because it did not sell.

imo the UX is quite ugly, while the LBX is pretty good looking for a small hatch

I don't think size is the reason it doesn't sell. Subcompact crossovers, even premium ones, are doing well in the US. The Corolla Cross(starting ~$24k) sold nearly 100,000 units in 2024, while the Buick Encore GX(starting ~26k) sold 58,000 units. The UX sold just shy of 10,000 units, less than half of its closer competitors, the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

The UX is just a bad value for where it's priced, starting at $37,715 for a poorly-equipped base model while the highest trim Corolla Cross hybrid starts at $31,580. Shared powertrains, and you can't even get leather seats in the UX.

It's not the size but the packaging. It's the same length as the Corolla Cross and JDM Corolla narrowbody wagon, but the cabin and cargo space are more comparable to the much smaller C-HR (which is the basis for the UX). And for a long time the powertrain options are just bad. Redesigning the next-gen UX based on the next-gen Corolla Wagon will make it much more practical. The Prius powertrain options are good enough, but I wouldn't mind if they build a UX-F with G20E-GTS.

The JDM Corolla Touring not only looks bigger but actually has a lot more interior space. Lexus designers need to resist their urge to add ridiculously long front overhang. Almost all of the extra 13cm vs. the C-HR is in the overhang.

Yes, it is the interior dimensions that are a problem with the UX. The rear seat is very tight and the rear cargo capacity is almost non-existent. Basing the UX on the Corolla Wagon or the latest Prius (with the longer wheelbases) would help.

From my observations, TNGA-C (e.g. Corolla, UX) and TNGA-K (e.g Camry) platforms are very inefficient with interior space. Rear seat room is tighter than would be expected (for the wheelbase) and rear cargo volume is also very limited.
