Lexus LBX Megathread

LBX interior is so nice... everything is stitched leather: dash, console, doors, etc. I wish all Lexus products got this level of detailing and luxury - especially the ones that cost 2-3x more.

This is what bothers me a lot. Why don't Lexus products in NA have this much effort put into them anymore? It is pretty heartbreaking.

Where's the wood? Stitching? Unique design features on the inside? Good engines? Lexus is languishing again bar the new LFA.

LBX has overkill interior for its class. It's 130kg heavier than the Yaris Cross and almost the same as Corolla Cross. The Morizo RR weighs the same as GR Corolla. So you know they did not skimp on materials.

Lexus products used to be a lot heavier than their Toyota base products because of the extra materials and features, but nowadays a lot of them are almost the same weight (ES/RX/TX/RZ are very similar to Avalon/Highlander/Grand Highlander/BZ4X). Maybe it's for emissions and fuel economy.

I mean... wasn't Lexus overkill when they came out with the LS400?

Overkill, especially on the interior, is one of the pillars of making a car luxurious. Many of the complaints about Lexus in the last decade have been around not enough differentiation from Toyota, so I'm perfectly fine with them going a little "too far" towards fixing that.

Probably a result of seeing so many consumers in NA market being perfectly content with cheap interiors and meh engines.

I gotta be honest. I thought this was a hack job & cash grab model by Lexus so I never paid much attention to it at all, until now. For the first time ever I had a chance to ride in it, I think it was Takumi model like Mazda or something. To make things worse I had a ride back in NX and I gotta say LBX has more upscale interior in every single way. Design layout is more elegant, display is not in your face, both seats upholstery and materials you don't have physical contact with feel better quality than in NX. And then there is chocolate brown color that has exact right hue to give presence of luxury. Sure duotone white and black interior in NX F-Sport didn't help either as I don't think they did a good job with it but still LBX felt super solid. I don't think I've seen anything as premium in this segment besides MB A-class.

Don't want to spread any rumors but imho inside of this car feels and looks like it was not designed by your usual Lexus design team. It feels like it came from different pipeline, maybe Yaris Cross designers did this as they imagined how premium model should look like. Someone stepped up big time here and they deserve to take on the next challenge in Lexus lineup.

It has his name on it.

That may be why it is a Lexus that wasn't corner cut.

Or he hijacked the project after seeing how well it was going and made it a morizo rr instead of f sport performance.

Solid product. I bet you we see a crown version.
