@Gecko current RAV4 was a massive improvement over the last one, one of the best TNGA implementations in my opinion.

Haven't got the chance to drive one, but after some seat time, it's a excellent and well priced product.

Reminds me of one of those creatures that comes up out of the Lagoon in those cheap 1950s horror-flicks.

New RAV4 and Wildlander are absolutely dominating the segment in China. Both variants cracked 10k sales in March. The two combined sold over 20k units.

At the same time Nissan sold 5200 Qashqai, VW sold 4900 Tiguan L, and Honda sold a paultry 2500 CR-V. This is the most dominating sales performance of any product in this extremely competitive segment.

Highlander is also on its way to dominate its own segment, with the old generation. Just imagine what they can do with four new models. We at first expected a lot of cannabalization between FAW and GAC, instead what happened is each performed well in their own territory (they divide up territories to minimize cannabalization) and take huge chunks of market share with the release of each new product. They are now forcing VW, Nissan, GM and Honda too sell their products at 30% discount, a Passat is now cheaper than the Corolla. What Toyota is doing is not designing two different products for two JVs (like VW and Honda does), instead it's just using its two partners to expand capacity at twice the rate.

Speaking of RAV4 Prime, a Toyota USA Newsroom release brings us pricing information.

Summing up, RAV4 Prime will be available for sale in the U.S. this summer in 2 "sporty" trim levels: SE and XSE. MSRP pricing is as follows:

RAV4 Prime SE base: $38,100
RAV4 Prime SE Weather & Moonroof Package (+$1,665 upgrade)

RAV4 Prime XSE base: $41,425
RAV4 Prime XSE Weather Package (+$815)
RAV4 Prime XSE Weather and Audio Package (+$2,435)
RAV4 Prime XSE Weather with Audio and Premium Package (+$5,760)

These numbers exclude the $1,120 destination charge

Pricey... but still worth it if you don't go wild on options. A $46k RAV4 is....... something else.

What’s the premium over a similar equipes Hybrid AWD model?
@Gecko , perhaps Toyota considers there is so much hype around it, they will sell it even at a premium. This should also mean next NX will move upmarket, a equivalent NX should go for 45~60k?

A base 2020 RAV4 Hybrid XSE AWD's MSRP is $34,300, whereas the 2021 RAV4 Prime XSE base model is $41,425. Thus, the U.S. surcharge for the Prime Plug-In (Assuming identical standard equipment levels) is $7125, but once 2021 RAV4 Hybrid pricing is announced that difference might go down. Also, the less expensive SE trim level is exclusive to the Prime, which explains why I didn't compare the Prime SE to a Hybrid SE. The latter doesn't exist.

This has been my theory for a while. A true dedicated 3 row, upmarket RX leaves for the NX to take the old RX position as the workhorse luxury 4/5 seater. LF1/LX could see similar setup at higher end. Would make sense if new NX is gonna look like a baby LF1. Let the GX be the black sheep who took off to live in the mountains in a luxury bunker.
