Base GX vs top trim LC which would LErs choose and why?

This is hard… I think I’d be inclined to go Land Cruiser in Land Cruiser trim. Underground with Java leather.

There are things I like more about each but if we’re talking base GX, I think I’d rather do a maxed out Land Cruiser.

What about you?

I'd take neither of those two options. On the 250 platform I would go minimum premium plus GX for the expected level of refinement and day to day on road liveability (360 camera etc).

LC biggest issues is Small 4 pot is gonna do small 4 pot refinement even with the hybrid system and sitting in one doesnt give you the refinement that I expect for shelling out close to 70k.

LC250 because of the 2400W inverter and autocharge function. Very useful for overlanding. You don't need to buy a heavy battery pack that occupies a lot of space. The car will automatically turn on the ICE when charge goes low so you don't need to conserve energy overnight.

A GX700h with 3.4 hybrid would be really nice but I think they don't have much GVM budget left for a hybrid system.

My brother and I are car camping the first weekend of November. He'll be in his LC and I'll be in my 4Runner. I'll have to check out that auto charge function.

Sheldon had an interview with TRD Jon a few weeks ago, and using the battery in a “camping” mode was one of the questions asked. Sheldon mentioned that to keep the battery charged, the engine would have to turn on three times (6 minutes each) in a 33 minute window. Apparently they’re some EPA regulations that limit the battery from being completely depleted. It’s a very cool concept, but I was a bit bummed with Sheldon’s response.

So in 33 minutes, the engine runs 18 minutes, 15 minutes of. The engine runs 55% of the time. Terrible.

That's assuming the battery is being drained at maximum power right?

I don't think you need to run the ICE half of the time overnight if only some phone charger and lights are powered. The battery won't even drain half the energy without any charging.

Yes, that’s true. That was with a full 20amp load on the inverter. Approximately 48 hours in ready-on mode with a full tank of fuel.

Here’s a link to the interview. “Camp mode” starts at around 1:39:00.

I was at Overland Expo East, and Lexus had a booth with a GX Overtrail in Earth with the Chateau interior. It looks fantastic. Earth was just ok in photos, but after seeing it in person….wow. Lexus has done a fantastic job with the color palette. The build quality was fantastic too. The Lexus reps at the booth were really dissing the LC250. 😂

I saw an Overtrail in Eminent White today. It looked really good.

On a totally different note for owners that may not know, I just changed the steering wheel responsivness from normal to sport and it made a huge difference in driving.
