One thing they can do in future to switch over any US 200 owners who don't want o get a 250 Prado/LC is possibly introduce an overtrail trim LX 600, it would be expensive but it would attract those who never had an issue with previous LC price and would be a nice off road flagship of Lexus sitting above the GX 550 as well as becoming kind of like an off road halo product for Toyota/Lexus in the US market.

They would also sell a lot of them in the Middle East so offering it for the select few who want in the US wouldn't be an issue, even if they end up selling little.

They already offer a triple locked version of the LX 600 in Japan anyway so the base for such a trim level is already available.
if done properly, that could end up being a very nice product honestly.

I wonder what the take rate for the LX F-Sport is like. Lexus said their own data show customers want a F-Sport.

And the JDM LX Off-road has triple lockers, but smaller tires and less ground clearance than a standard model.

I genuinely don't understand Lexus logic behind the entire LX lineup. But maybe LX customers don't really care because they just buy it for business write offs.

"Yes, both the GX and the Land Cruiser Prado share exact same platform and they are basically the same car with a different engine."
As someone who deals in and around executive teams and insiders, from technical specialists to board advisors and research analysts, these people are not untouchable or unquestionable in what they do. I've seen hundreds of millions vaporized by over arrogant engineers. I've helped finance, advise and have co-founded innovative companies.

I've seen 30+ year industry veterans detonate their reputations when they're finally in the hot seat alone.

I'd put him in a room with the team behind the vehicles and see what he says then.

All respect to this gentleman, I don't know him, and if you'd engaged him properly you'd get a more thoughtful response. Engineers are not always thoughtful communicators.

Source? The GX will be sent to the GCC alright.

It is common knowledge and confirmed with more than one GCC dealer. Does not mean its a permanent decision for future model years as I am hearing they are trying to get it.

I just realized Larry is also the same guy that doesn’t understand production allocation for the LX. And bashes the brand quite a bit. Maybe he’s lost and thinks he’s on Clubhatelexus lol.

Two things:

LarryT and CRSKTN, please exit this thread. That's enough.

Second, if you're using David Chao as a source of truth, I would recommend that you ask the people at corporate what they think of him and his "expertise."

Let's get back to the GX or this thread is being locked.

I confirmed with AAB that we’re getting the GX but it’ll be delayed.

That would be great

I guess time will tell.
The GX460 wasn’t a hit in the GCC for a couple of reasons. It looked too much like a Prado (the rear was identical to that of the Prado’s) and it was give or take around the V8 GXR’s price point. The LC200 was much bigger and roomier and subjectively looked way better. It was more configurable too as there was the option of a manual and a rear mounted spare tyre. Not to forget to mention the LC’s heritage and legacy within the region.

But in this day and age of social media I think the GX550 will fare much better. It generated a lot of interest and conversations. Now that it doesn’t look like the Prado and actually looks subjectively good I think it will succeed even though it will be priced similarly to the TTV6 GXR. I guess people just want change. We’ll indeed see what happens.

I’ve had a lot of friends in the middle east ask me about the GX and J250. They never really asked me about the 470. FWIW

Ignore feature works wonders with the trolls, though I can still see when other engage with them.

Just noticed the digital rear view mirror is not available on the Overtrail model.
No digital rear view mirror, no rear AC control or ceiling air vents, and no leather is a weird mix of compromises.

I also saw a video from the launch where the Lexus rep slipped the cargo volume for the Overtrail model.
57 cu. ft behind the 2nd row and 97 cu. ft max cargo, which is pretty impressive. I think that's what the Grand Highlander has. And 11 more cu. ft than the Sequoia.

Off-roaders generally don't want super nice interiors or gadgets, it's just more things to break. We all know the reality is that nobody buying one new will actually do that (the GX is pricey enough that I've only ever seen first-generation ones used for serious builds), but for this GX in general and the Overtrail in particular they're really pushing that angle.

I think this highlights people who buy new vs people who buy used. Generally, new GX and LX buyers want luxury, quality, features, and convenience.

Used buyers want the bare utility and are often the “less is more” crowd, so they let someone else take the depreciation hit and fix the big ticket maintenance items. Then they lift them, put on all terrain tires and beat them up 😂

Bingo. Used buyers just need the base because they're going to modify the vehicles anyway.

New buyers want the features because they want to use/enjoy them, or at least them want them available in case they use them.
If you're buying new and footing that full up-front cost, I say you should be able to pay for what you want. If you decide to sell at some point, that's someone else's gain.

I think all cars should offer heads up display and digital rear view mirrors - big fan of both
Digital rear view is awesome. Lexus should add the ability to record it, like Tesla has. I'd love digital side mirrors too, but I know there are regulatory challenges there. The HUD I'm much less sold on coming up on 2 years in. I don't hate it, but it's hard to read in full daylight on concrete roads which is kind of a common situation.
