Weird Lexus decision to keep 4th Gen engine. Instead of migrating to new 5th Gen. for 2026. Looks like Lexus will add 5th Gen engine during refresh coming 2027??

Which engines are we talking about? Sorry brain is fried lol

What do you consider a 4th-gen engine and a 5th-gen engine?

Upgrading engines is not necessarily a simple, drop-in, plug-and-play effort. A new engine -- especially a new-generation engine -- may require a new transmission; it will certainly require new structural engine mounts and new ECU tuning. The structural changes and the ECU fine-tuning take time and effort, and would be best done when planned changes, like a refresh, is done.

And generational changes (major re-design) of engines do not necessarily coincide with generational changes of models. Major engine re-designs are very costly and so are done only when absolutely necessary (like not being able to meet new emissions regulations).

I THINK they are referring to the hybrid system, as Toyota is currently on their 5th generation hybrid system.

I would think it gets an 8 speed as well. I can’t believe this has 6’speeds only. Good tranny tho, shifts reasonably quick and downshifts on its own very well and you get some sound.

Let me tell u this thing is a hoot especially 0-60 or so. After that it feels like it needs 50 more hp. But at low speeds it’s immediate and quick. Direct 4 and rear steer makes it handle very very well. This one has the all season dunlap as so it slides.. fun..

The ride is mostly good but over uneven pavement or anything that makes it jump it feels unsettled. You can then feel the weight.

Brakes are fantastic.

Still weird to have decent fun in a RX!

8 speed is too busy and needs less gears while 6 speed is great but needs more gears.

Need at least 8. Would be quicker with better mpg. Let’s be honest most people won’t drive line me with it lol

my friend, you know better than me that it depends on ratios, and I vaguely remember someone posting 6AT vs 8AT from TMC and it was geared for overdrives not speed.

Feeling super nostalgic. Does anyone else miss these older December to Remember commercials from the late 90s to early 00s? I used to love this song as a kid and wish they brought it back.
