This ES will be built at the Lexus Shanghai factory I'm assuming? With that in mind there's still hope the ES globally will look different?
No. It will be built in Japan and from insider leaks it doesn't seem the Shanghai factory will be building the ES at first, but a SUV instead.

But the new ES design was done by the Chinese branch which now has much more autonomy than before. Previously the way it works is Japan side dictates all the design and specifications, and the China side does the engineering and preliminary testing. But now the Chinese branch can decide what products to release for the local market and design it from the ground up, or outsource it to a Chinese ODM. I guess the role Japan does in this case is changing the sourcing of certain parts to comply with US tariffs.

The end of an era. I have no words to accurately convey the disappointment that this is. A rebadged Chinese Toyota EV is the new global ES it seems. If this is an accurate indicator of all future Lexus models, this likely will kill the Lexus brand.

The problems and crises currently at Toyota Motor Company are even worse than I thought.

I refuse to believe this S**t is from Lexus. Honestly, if they’re not even trying anymore, what’s the point of keeping the Lexus brand alive? They might as well just cancel it. At this point, this brand feels like a joke.

The CE and CD of new ES are Japanese…

Mike, I want to know your thoughts on this one. Can you let them know this is not going to work, it’s just really bad for the brand.

Looking at comments I think they will know lol. That said it’s also my experience negative online banter doesn’t translate into a flop. It always comes down to the person writing the check.

This is my personal take. The exterior is all over the place for me. Some of the higher trim specs look better due to larger wheels. The black strip on the side is a no. It feels like the front end is sharp and the rest is too round. I don’t understand all these fastback designs without a hatch .Give us the additional cargo room.

The interior is an absolute let down. I see everyone online and in person telling me about Genesis interiors and I am sad at the ES. . This is way too minimalistic for me and I like modern things. I keep seeing Tesla comments and can’t disagree: and I don’t like Tesla interiors. I should not be driving a Mazda and thinking how the interior is way better.

It’s massive. My 1992 ES is 188 inches long. This is nearly 203” long. This is the length of a LS which is 206” long. This is massive. Young people won’t want it. Too big. This to me means the LS is dead unless the LS gets massive like the s class (208”) ans 7 series (212”).

Positive’s? The listed weight is fantastic. Around 4100 lbs for such a large car as an ES 350h. Under 5000lbs as a EV. Impressive. Direct 4 on the 500e should make for a good drive. I hope this has over 400hp. I’m sure this will have new tech we don’t have yet.

But maybe I don’t understand as I am not the target. My interest is in the Taycan or RS GT E tron. Maybe this is truly aimed more for China. Maybe it’s aimed at the pissed Tesla owner who wants to stay with an EV but hates Elon.

Curious what the volume target will be. I just wonder how the traditional ES buyer will like this. The current ES is a beautiful car.

Cliffs- I wanted to see this and say “Wooooowwwwwww” but i saw it and said “oh”.

I personally like the front end design language.

But the side profile, especially the greenhouse, just screams generic Chinese midsize sedan to me.

Oh my f*cking God.

I just saw the car from a few pages ago and my jaw dropped to the floor, I couldn't even mutter any words due to abject silence.

Like WAIT... are you telling me that Lexus' bread and butter sedan for the entire world is now a REBADGED Chinese product?! This isn't even a diss against the Chinese, they're building some interesting stuff nowadays, but the entire Lexus brand died... for THIS?!

There is nothing remotely Japanese about this car. They didn't even push any barriers, or do anything that would soften the blow of losing other Lexus vehicles, but no... they rebadged a Chinese car lol.

Close up shop Lexus.

I don't think it's a rebadged Chinese car cause the documents say it's TNGA-K but it definitely appears to look a lot like a Chinese car
