Yeah clearly a chess move for Elon. This won’t spur competition. That said then pull ALL EV funding to tesla as well. No more credits no more subsidies for charging stations etc.

The insane part is all these companies went to the tesla charger and tesla f__s em.

We need true competition and not to depend on tesla for charging.

People are positioning for huge redirection of capital investment to europe and china.

America has no idea what theyve just done to themselves.
China must be dying from laughter.

I have C suite level people who are now refusing to relocate there, especially the technical experts who are mostly visible minorities.

If you have dry powder be ready for a firesale of US assets over the next few years.

The last time the US took anywhere near this approach it kicked off the great depression 🤣

Thinking out loud, the auto industry ramifications are plenty on the legacy side who primarily need the credit to the move the ev metal. They will have to offset losses through ice production, while on the non legacy side, those who can trim fat through rapid engineering will probably come out on top (almost all of them seem to be geared this way) or get extra funding from foreign investment ie lucid.

The external side effects of course will be all those new development projects that southern states like Georgia and south Carolina got might be put on pause effective immediately.

I saw VW gave Rivian some terms for the full investment. The plant here was stopped but then they recently said it will begin again. I just don’t see it and we are pissed in GA. Hyundai has made massive investments here too and I believe the plant came online.

You are better than this than me, so maybe the legacies are thinking of exporting these EVs? But they might be hit with retaliatory tariffs making them too expensive. We also don’t see China slowing down with EVs and we could potentially be waaaaay behind except Tesla which builds there too, though BYD seems to be closer to dominant.

I need a beer lol

I assume Friday morning there is going to be all hands on deck meeting at every dealership stocking evs, to move as many of them as possible before eoy.

Captive financing is probably having their meeting atm.

Its got to be said, Toyota is sitting pretty with these new developments from the outside looking in. barely any exposure with its limited ev lineup. My extension almost all Japanese mfgs have limited ev lineups so they might as well have little exposure.

I do wonder internally, the sit rep? They have been launching new ev timelines, ev projects, battery development, factories etc since 2020, I wonder what becomes of those?

Jaguar has a new typeface consisting of lowercase a,r and capital J, G, U. And they have a new emblem consisting of two Js to stylize two cat tails. Whoever pushed this through deserves every penny they got because this requires level 99 of bromance and spell craft to get approved. Whoever approved this knows nothing about Jaguar.

This branding wouldn't be out of place on Champs-Élysées.
I have a feeling this will be pulled off well

It looks like it belongs on a perfume bottle. Their upcoming cars will be super presence machines, basically Jaguar will try to position itself like genuine Rolls Royce alternative priced like it's sold inside thrift shop. I don't mean anything bad at all by typing that. That's why I think that styling will not work with cars that are designed to look like huge bricks.

And don't take this the wrong way but Europe is not a high end luxury goods market anymore. Champs-Élysées, Via Condotti today look like streets with knock-off stores compared to what LVMH does in Singapore, China, South California or Florida. That's why Jaguar is doing it in Miami hoping it will set on fire both North and South Americans who are your usual Gucci customers. They are not targeting niche ultra high end fashion here but rather flashy well known brands that's why they introduced such a generic fashion brand typeface to blend it with YSL, Berluti etc.

This part especially doesn't make sense.

So it looks like a high-end product brand, and it's positioning for aston martin & bentley, not RR. They start at $140k.
Not sure what thrift shop sells sedans for $140-$250k.

And arguing that Europe is "not a high end luxury goods market anymore" is so completely detached from reality I don't even know what to say. It's like handing a pianist a picture of a clown and saying "play this".

Also claiming that the original stores that asia and the USA copied off of "look like knockoffs" is wild.
Have you been to Paris lately? What part of those stores feels like cheap knock-offs to you?

Thrift shop = used car prices, New Jag priced like half the price of used RR. Still in mid 100s btw
They are definitely chasing customers that prefer mainstream luxury fashion brands inside premium shopping malls (USA and Asia)
