Once again that Aisin 8AT is holding back their performance...only 76% achievement ratio (283PS crank hp, 215PS wheel hp). This is one of the few cars that doesn't improve track time over the MT version.

A Chinese influencer 键盘车神教 (Chinese equivalent of Misha Charoudin) recently reviewed the GR Yaris AT and he also thinks it's a downgrade over the MT.

No wonder this guy is able to lap this track faster in the manual GR Yaris while carrying a passenger than in the AT GR Yaris without carrying anyone else.

This is why I have paid 4 times the price for EVO than mags here. It’s just superior witting, pics and reviews. They said they want the best driving car and GR Yaris wins.

In America, Civic would have won easily lol

What's with the Civic hate? It's one of the best handling cars on sale today.

It already beat the GR Yaris and A45 in a comparison test by EVO, just wasn't included here because it's not AWD.

Which means our winner, by a unanimous decision, is the Honda Civic Type R. The composure and effortless precision of the Civic are sensational, and much else is five-star quality too, from the brakes to the gearshift to the seats. Its depth of ability makes it a remarkable car by any measure.

‘You sense that every single individual involved in its development was on exactly the same page, from the people who make one of the world’s best gearshifts to whoever engineered the click of the heating controls,’ says Ingram. ‘If Honda could somehow engineer-in some of the old naturally aspirated character and sound, it’d be damn near perfect.’

‘It feels like a bigger car now,’ says Taylor, ‘but I love the clarity of it, the feedback through all the controls, the precision of everything. It’s become a cliché, but it really is the hot hatch equivalent of a GT3. Objectively, it’s probably the best front-wheel-drive car I’ve driven.’

The Civic Type R is simply sublime, the most polished, poised and accomplished hot hatchback of all time, and it ensures that the time-served and much-loved internal-combustion hot hatch genre goes out on the highest of highs.

The CTR is simply unmatched in its class because of all the specialized tuning to make it a track weapon. Not even the BMW M235i (FWD-based) can match it. But for the average user an AWD car will always be easier to push to the limit.

This video shows the CTR's suspension (FL5's main suspension components like the control arms and knuckles/uprights are carried over from the FK8).

Ngl, I kinda wish the GR Yaris and GR Corolla have their own unique suspension designs with aluminium control arms like what Mitsubishi did starting from the Lancer Evo V until the Evo X, but nah Toyota just got to be stingy. The GRY and GRC's front track width being narrower than the rear doesn't make sense on these 2 front heavy cars. I've been wondering why these 2 cars have such low electronically limited top speed of 143 mph (I know top speed is basically irrelevant on public roads but still curious why their speed limiter are set well below the norm of at least 155 mph).

Toyota is so stingy with suspension materials use. Reducing unsprung weight by 1kg is equivalent to reducing sprung weight by 10kg. Only their top end longitudinal platform cars (LS, LC, RC-F) use forged aluminum components. The latest generation Civic and Accord come from the factory with lower aluminum control arms. But these are cast not forged so not really as good, but it still proves Honda cares about handling even in their most basic products.

The GRC suspension system is all steel.

Exactly, even the suspension in the other fwd based Toyota and Lexus models that are even more expensive than the GR Yaris and GR Corolla are mainly steel, while some of the other smaller mainstream car manufacturers are more generous at equipping their cars with aluminium suspension components. For example, the lower control arm on the WRX's front suspension is forged aluminium, the Miata's front suspension's upper arms, lower arms and knuckles are all forged aluminium and as you've stated even the basic Civics and Accords have some cast aluminium suspension components, and all these cars are cheaper than the GRC lol 💀.

Sorry but it's time to push back on this. I strongly and truly believe a lot of Honda's reputation is based on lies and propaganda. The Civic might be a good handling car, but there are many other real world problems with it not to mention with Hondas in general.

I have driven many Hondas and Acuras in my life and they share many real world problems, some of which I find to be critical and dangerous. This is way more serious than simply preferring one brand over another. The common weaknesses and problems that Hondas and Acuras share show to me a disrespect by Honda towards life and towards humans in general. Honda and Acura vehicles I strongly consider to be dangerous and unsuitable for daily driving and I would never recommend them to friends, family, strangers or even enemies. This is my strong opinion after having driven and experienced many Hondas and Acuras in my life.

The common critical real world problems I have experienced in Hondas and Acuras are, especially when driven near the limit or at the limit or in emergency situations:

- the brakes fade easily
- when near the limit or at the limit the suspension gets skittish and nervous
- when near the limit or at the limit the handling becomes nervous, twitchy and unpredictable
- when near the limit or at the limit there is a risk of overheating the engine. I personally have experienced an overheating engine multiple times in a Honda/Acura in my life.

These are all critical and dangerous vehicle behaviors that I have experienced in common to Hondas and Acuras I have driven. I am taking about life and death level of dangerous behaviour that Hondas and Acuras exhibit. I do not feel safe when I am in a Honda or Acura, even as a passenger.

In contrast I have also driven many Toyota and Lexus models in my life in the same driving conditions and have never experienced any of the above problems in a Toyota or Lexus. I always feel safe when in a Toyota or Lexus in contrast to a Honda or Acura.
