What's your preference for sunglasses? I maintain a collection of at least a dozen, staying prepared like a Boy Scout....

For me it's RayBans for nearly everything, including driving Lexus.

And Nike for active sports including tennis/running/hiking.

Being an ex-pilot, I got used to aviation-spec sunglasses. In general, they are among the best and most effective, though good ones can be found from a number of brands and types....including Ray-Ban, as RAL noted.

Sunglasses must be quite important to you, Steve........I remember you used to have big ones on your former avitar-image.

^ Yes I do enjoy high quality sunglasses, (kind of like my appreciation for premium automotive machinery too, lol)

One of my pair of RayBans is a newer aviator style, called Warrior which fits those with a thin face well. To me good quality sunglasses are important for both visual acuity and sun protection. I know 2 middle aged people with early signs of cataracts, both had history of using cheap sunglasses in outdoor activities in CA. To me better to be safe and stylish with sunglasses.

I have a controversial view on RayBan. They're certainly not the same, compared to what they were decades ago.

Personally, I like slightly less popular brands mainly based on quality, styling, craftsmanship, safety, protection. Brands like Carrera, Bevel, Smith Optics.

RayBans have had some rough periods over last 2 decades with spotty quality for short periods. But I've found quality to be very good in most recent decade for pairs in the over $100 range. The only pair I had trouble with (plastic end ear piece) recently was about $90 from Macy's.

Yeah, that's what I was implying. Over the last several years though, I know a few people that bought high-end Raybans ($300-600) and have complained about various spotty quality issues. So I'm not totally convinced they've sorted out their quality issues.

There's the problem. Rayban sweet spot today is under $300, they are mid-priced specialists. I have had very good results in $125-$300 range in last decade. But thanks for warning about high end models.

Maybe you're right. It could be that the people I know had high expectations for the higher-end models. Yeah no problem; I don't own any Raybans myself, this is just what I've heard from people I know.

We have some good input/feedback on the 2 or 3 price tiers of RayBans.

I mentioned Nike sunglasses for higher impact sports like running or tennis. For me they work better than Bolles since the rubbery nose piece and ear pieces keep them stable, not sliding down nose.

Any other sunglasses brands Lexus Enthusiasts have tried?
(My wife uses Channel and RayBans with success.)

I buy ripoff Wayfarers at H&M because I constantly lose or scratch sunglasses. Had a nice pair of Raybans for two weeks once.

You didn't hear it from me, but I've started to get my "raybans" from AliExpress. They take about a month to get to the states and they aren't always the highest quality, but if you want the ray ban look and branding, but don't want to feel sick if you scratch/break them, they're not bad for $15-20 sunglasses! hah
