Pretty interesting the NX was the #1 seller in the first quarter of 2020 and its the oldest CUV here. The QX50 has been an absolute disaster.

NX 11,309
RDX 11,153
X3 10,614
Q5 9,959
XT5 9,023
Nautilus 5,245
XC60 5,569
QX50 4,170
Where's the GLC?

They invested a ridiculous amount of money into the most complex ICE ever mass-produced. Yet it is put into a trash product.
@ssun30 : Would you say the Nissan 2-liter 4-cylinder VC-T variable compression turbo engine is slightly or much more complex than Mazda's Skyactiv-X Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) engine?

of course SPCCI is the most complex engine today.

Its problem is that it is not good enough right now. They way over-promised and under-delivered with it, and sales are poor.

This is a helpful view - thanks for compiling. With only 5 SUVs and most of them being old/older, amazing to see Lexus in second place right on Mercedes' heels.

It's not ready and Mazda rushed it to the market. As @spwolf said they overpromised and underdelivered.

Gecko you have to remember that sales are not that much influenced by age of the model... profit/discounts certainly is but they weight that against investment.

At least not most of the world and not for healthy models... in Japan, these days every model gets max 2 years of popularity then it becomes forgotten.

NX/RX do not get that much influenced by age historically, and UX seems the same... GX/LX too, in their own respective categories.

something interesting about Europe is that NX is first model that actually truly established Lexus in Europe (Russia excluded). RX did OK always but the price of 450h after taxes is pretty astronomical, so it cant be a huge seller... rest of the lineup always lived good for first 2-3 years after introduction and then died off quickly. NX and now UX will likely be first models that are going to be widely accepted as legitimate models that will sell decently in their 6th year on sale.

And this is truly important for long term future of Lexus EU.

In North America, maybe Lexus should just increase residual value, lower lease rates, and take a small hit and sell those lease returns at a decent discount directly to consumers instead of auctioning them off for used car dealership to put on high mark ups. All I see on German and Japanese forums are the high monthly payments on Lexus/Acura compared to German car makes.

They should do this after the pandemic scare wanes though:

Those who stand to be hurt by the fall in prices are sellers of used cars such as Ford Credit and General Motors Financial, which auction off their leased inventory, and rental-car companies, such as Hertz and Avis, which auction off their rental fleets. Every percentage point that used-vehicle values drop hurts their bottom line by millions of dollars.

The IS line definitely needs to be updated and bring back the IS F with at least 426hp - 504hp (M3 has 425hp and C63S has 503hp) and IS 300h and IS Sportcross to North America. C'mon Lexus you can do it...

Is the move to quarterly reports confirmed for Lexus?
Toyota and Lexus are sort of in an odd "twilight zone" when it comes to U.S. sales reports. Their official USA Newsrooms stopped issuing monthly sales reports and any sort of commentary for 2020, but they're feeding Automotive News enough information so that they're publishing overall monthly numbers and what percentage they've gone up or down.
