Toyota should leave the 348hp 405lbft V35 for the TRD PRO Tacoma/4Runner, and Trailhunter if they come. That way there is still a V6 but in the top version.

It would need to be more powerful than that because the Ranger Raptor would then have a major power advantage.

Why compete when you can make huge profits by selling accessories at 100% premium? That's the TRD business model and a pretty good one too.

If you've seen what they've done with the Tundra you know they have no interest competing against the Raptor in NA.

It's not like people will get upset there is no GR Tacoma and leave the brand. Tacoma buyers are ridiculously loyal. Otherwise the Tacoma wouldn't be still production limited after so many years without an update.

Agreed. Plus the North America market cares about off roading as opposed to high speed desert racing. Even so that Toyota introduced the Trailhunter.

Surprising! I did not think that Toyota was interested in mild-hybrid systems.

The i-Force Max parallel hybrid technology is too expensive?

for a diesel engine that's already expensive and has many reasons why it should be not hybridized? Yeah. Even the germans dropped complex diesel hybrids and are left with 48v glorified start/stop systems.

Got a feeling that Toyota is going through hell trying to develop next gen vehicles that are mainly aimed towards the more cost conscious markets, some regular sedan and hatchback models that used to have a life cycle of 7 years at most and get facelift once as part of their mid-cycle refresh are now being dragged on for 10 years, with some even going past 10 years and being facelifted not once, not twice but 4 to 5 TIMES throughout their life cycle, it's crazy.

Now they have even reach the point where they are stuffing in the almost useless in real world situations 48V mild hybrid system into certain variants of the current gen Hilux as cheap stopgap method to improve their fleet fuel economy, because a new, truly more efficient model is probably still 2-3 years away.

Like the ASEAN-market XP150 Yaris hatchback, it recently received a really janky looking, half-a$$ version of Toyota's hammerhead shark styling as its 5th facelift, in last year 2022 there were rumours about this model being killed off, but as of 2023 all those articles talking about this rumour are all gone, I can't find them anymore, maybe it's a similar situation to the Vellfire where Toyota was contemplating whether to ditch this model or continue with a new generation, hopefully those rumour articles being removed are hints that a new gen model is being developed and will go on sale in the not to distant future.

Toyota is doing a really good job in 2nd/3rd world markets, only company introducing new powertrains there.

But yes, it is built to cost. What exactly do you expect? Here in Europe, base Yaris Hybrid is now $22k. Used to be $15k for well equipped 1.3l petrol engine (higher end option).

They cant sell that vehicle in Thailand, nobody would have money to afford it. This is why they have different platforms and simplified powertrains, why they share it with Daihatsu and Perdua.

Seems like the IMV 0 concept is actually going into production, it's called Rangga, a very developing market focused, low price and basic pick-up truck.

IMO it's so tall and boxy that it looks more like a box van than a typical pick-up truck. Still, pretty interesting that they are actually putting it into production. Also, is this supposed to be the rumoured pick-up truck that sits below the Hilux that we've previously read from certain South African car websites?

If the Hilux moves to TNGA, then that means the Fortuner will as well. The Fortuner wheelbase is only about 1.5” shorter than a 5th gen 4Runner wheelbase. Crazy thought: What if the Hilux wheelbase grows an inch or two and the 4Runner ends up sharing a chassis with the Fortuner instead of the Prado? That would give some size differentiation between the 4Runner and Land Cruiser. Kinda crazy, but Toyota has been full of surprises lately.

That's exactly what I thought as well. Since the 3GX/Landcruiser 250 (Prado) have grown in size and producing a next generation 4Runner similar to the Landcruiser 250 would be redundant. My thought is that the 4Runner would share a similar platform of the Fortuner, but then again Hilux/Fortuner, Tacoma/4Runner, GX/Landcruiser (250) Prado, LX/Landcruiser (300) Cygnus.

Toyota is on a roll with pickup trucks. It appears the Rangga and maybe the U.S. version is the Stout are coming. We currently have the Hilux, Tacoma and Tundra.

Also, a new Fortuner will be coming soon since the Hilux and Fortuner are closely related.

Next generation Camry is also about to debut. Lot's of new products coming from Toyota/Lexus.
