Mirai is RWD btw.

@mikeavelli

Just tell us this. Did they show you guys the Crown at HQC? There is no way that they haven't showed you guys because it will be out in dealers in 5 months. Also, is the cover for the HQC a silhouette of the Crown?
if they did, they can't tell you. They could be seeing at least one out of crown, grand highlander, 4runner, GX, TX at HQC, whether that's concepts or close to full production models.

If the guy says he can't tell us then that's evidence that they were shown the Crown. I was wondering what he may say. Also I didn't know there would be an NDA for simply saying "I saw the new Crown".

Whatever the media got to see, I doubt anyones silly enough to even blink the existence of said models on a public forum. Nobody wants TMC smoke/fade. Public forum members who have begun leaking tidbits of information are disappearing or the forums being sent C&D letters/cuttoff from pressers.

The latest rumor from BestCar suggests Crown SUV is put on hold because of strong dealer opposition. They also disliked the new Crown 4-door Coupe but it's too close to completion to be cancelled.
But it has nothing to do with RWD. The reason is GA-K platform is over 1800mm in width. Traditionally Crown has always used a narrow body platform to stay under 1800mm. GA-N is a narrow-body variant of GA-L exclusive to the Crown, the Mirai does not use GA-N. It's not related to regulations (compact car is defined as <1700mm) but generally cars over 1800mm wide are very hard to sell in Japan.
So the plan for now is keep selling the GA-N S220 Crown alongside the GA-K "Crown plus". In 2025 the S220 gets a major facelift like the IS instead of full redesign.

There is NO "GA-N Platform" ……
all TNGA RWD products only come for GA-L, "GA-N"is Japan's local media/self media's mistake.....

New developments:
  1. S230 Crown confirmed—document on toyota-tech.eu makes mention of a TZSH35 Crown with AWD. Suggests it will be available in Europe in addition to Australia (where the new logo was trademarked), Japan and the USA.
  2. Dealers in Japan have begun to receive training videos.
  3. Camouflaged test mules have been spotted on the road in Japan.
From descriptions of the test mules and the actual car in the training videos, we can relax knowing it is not a crossover. It has been described as a Mirai-like fastback with a taller profile than the current sedan and comparisons have been made to the BMW 6 Series GT, Audi A6 e-tron, Porsche Panamera and Nio ET5.

If the covered cars in the HQC teaser image are the Crown, it appears that it will retain the GA-L platform and become the first longitudinal application of the T24A (much like how the S220 was the first, and so far only, application of the A25 in a longitudinal layout).

The 14th gen was taller than the 15th gen too and since it did not have that sloping roofline it felt pretty spacious inside

There has only been one reported sighting so far and the Twitter user who saw it asked their parents, who have a dashcam, to go to its location and get some footage. However, when they got there, it was already gone. Our best bet now is the person who caught the new RX and next gen Sienta mules but they have yet to see it (I'm pretty sure they've been staking out for it)
