New sports models will be announced this week on December 5 at 11 AM JST, or December 4 at 9 PM EST.
The wording in the press release is interesting as is the teaser image posted with it. Instead of referencing Lexus models, the cars are just referenced as “sports” models and the press event is being hosted by Toyota Motor Corporation.
Traditionally, Lexus press releases more directly reference Lexus but we know the car front and center will be branded as GR and called the GT per this teaser video. The car to the left is the...

Screenshot 2025-12-02 at 12.32.13 PM.pngInteresting, though, that Lexus would share the teaser. Could just be because the Lexus Sport Concept is in the photo, but why is darkened if we've already seen it? Maybe, Lexus is getting a production version of it revealed as well, and maybe, this is it and staying close to the concept.

The wording of the release is so strange to me.

"Sports models."

Posted by Lexus, the conference is being held by Toyota. I hope there is clarity about what comes next for GR -- not just the GT but as the brand. This is certainly exciting, but parts of it are weird too.

The way I read BestCar's latest scoop (they seem to also be very confused about the branding): the V8 hybrid model is the GR GT, while "LFA II/LFR" is a BEV super car. The original plan was releasing the GR GT in 2025 and LFR in 2028. Since the GR GT was delayed by 2 years (delivery starts in 2027), the two models will debut together. I think this also means the LFR BEV program is actually ahead of schedule; they either made some breakthrough on solid-state batteries or fell back to the bipolar Li-ion battery option (which should debut next year).

I still think the Lexus model is 90% a BEV, but I'll be very happy to be proven wrong.

So I think there are several possibilities for this. I think the first reason why is because since GR will break off completely from Toyota, and be positioned as a slightly higher brand (albeit entirely focused on performance vehicles) it is expected to be sold at Lexus Dealers. There is also potential for Lexus F to be killed off and for it to be the Lexus GR GT (far less likely). Another/Additional possibility is that in this event they talk about what powertrains the Lexus supercar will be coming with. I honestly think it will come with a V8 hybrid. Anyways all shall be answered in a few days.

Will not buy the Lexus concept electric one, never, and it’s just a concept anyway. Hell, now GR (Toyota) is more exiting than any Lexus out there. Congrats Akido, Toyota killed the Lexus star. Sure he not said get rid of the Lexus, not the spindle grille?

You just did the Porsche thing, their customers don’t want any pure electric sports car’s either. ☹️

Ideally given that it is based on the same chassis they will offer both, just like porsche is doing, however that possibility is quite slim.

Highly doubt it.

The GR GT was conceived and developed as the "Lexus LFR" up until 2024 when the decision was made to rebrand it as the GR GT.

No point in taking what was already developed as a Lexus, has a Lexus design language inside and out, and will be sold in Lexus dealers.. and rebodying it and putting a Lexus badge on it. Sounds so stupid but it is what it is.

It's a perfect analogy for Akio Toyoda.

Stolen glory from things you never earned or created yourself, used to promote something mediocre and overrated.

Toyota literally told R&T that there are no plans to share the TTV8 with any other vehicle, so nope to that.
**** you TMC. Mercedes it is I guess! I am a young guy (17) and I honestly believe that myself and many others would rank lexus in the big 3 (along with BMW, Mercedes, and Audi/Porsche) in a heartbeat had they just infused more passion into their products. They seem to be failing at doing it though. They are going from a grandma car to toyota+ products to tesla+ products. I have ideas, and I guess it doesn't hurt to share on here, though I know full well those ideas will NEVER see the light of day.

There's still good stuff to look forward to from TMC... upcoming GR MR2 and GR Celica

Very concerned that the GR Supra will materialize with a 4-cylinder, though.

From the latest rumours ive heard the Supra will spawn a Lexus variant with a 6cyl. GR MR2 will be the same car as the GR Celica, and its expected to just be called GR MR2.

Companies that operate this way do not have the persistent vision and determination to build truly great stuff.

They're gonna bang around from model lineup to model lineup in this thing as none of them make their money back and then they'll end up having a few stale aging models they'll ring out while they transition GR back into a Toyota Trim level and try to bring back the LFA again to rekindle customer interest but that'll be the equivalent of Acura bringing back the Integra as a 4 door econo-shitbox.

I have to disagree with you here. I think the GR brand will be a long-termer and their lineup is pretty exciting. You can't act like this is their second attempt at creating a model lineup, because it isnt. This is the first time they are creating their model lineup. They key is how they price their flagship. The public reception (outside of this forum) on social media and all has been overwhelmingly positive. I heard how it sounds, and it sounds pretty damn good, and different enough from the other V8s to establish it's own identity from the likes of AMG. I think the key here is not release the supra with a 4-cylinder. Bestcar has reported on multiple powertrain options (4cyl and v6) which is probably what will happen. My guess is that the 6er will have maybe 450(ish) hp, and be a scaled down version of the GRGT engine. Then there is a 4cyl with around 380hp. This same 4cyl can make it's way into the MR2. I think we can all agree that TMC is hurting Lexus. However, I think GR is going to flourish. As I have stated before, the part which pisses me off is that they could be doing what they are doing with GR without having it be at the expense of Lexus. They have the capital for that. Someone earlier said they dont have "**** you money" they have "**** your whole bloodline" money.

My dude they have tried starting up performance lineups multiple times and have failed.
They have 2 derived products stolen from Lexus and maybe 2 other down market offerings on the way.
This entire product/brand launch was the failure of F, cause and effect.

I feel like they are more committed this time. The whole down market thing doesnt really matter as long as its not SUPER down market. GR is a premium brand not really a luxury brand. Its kinda like Corvette, not so much like Cadillac.

Toyota stole the LFR. Just take it back and rebrand it as a Lexus.👍😂
