Anyway you cut it, this is a tremendous accomplishment and 1 million sales could happen in the next 5-10 years.

I believe this is very likely to happen. With Lexus set to begin production in China, it will for sure drive the brand’s global sales growth. Taking Audi as the closest example, the brand sold around 650k vehicles in China last year. However, if we exclude the Chinese market, Audi’s global sales are not significantly ahead of Lexus.

Worldwide sales performance for January-December 2024 reached a record high of 851,214 units (103.3% compared to last year).

Lexus set a new sales record in 2024, leading luxury sales in the U.S. The RX had its best year, the NX sold 74,000 units, and the TX and GX performed very well. ES and RC saw sales increases, and incentives helped boost RZ sales. Electrified hybrid sales also continued to grow, contributing to Lexus’s strong performance.

That’s the funny thing. I’ve refrained from posting for awhile because so many of the posts here tend to lean negative. Every announcement Lexus makes is met with negative comments from “enthusiasts” here, whether it’s the design of the new ES, to engine choices they make. Everything they do has to spell the end of Lexus, whether it’s Tesla curb stomping them to oblivion or whatever upgrades Toyota makes on their side. Meanwhile Lexus continues to post record sales. Clearly they have a few people that know better than we do on what the market wants.

Yeah, you're not wrong - Lexus clearly knows how to sell cars, and the numbers speak for themselves. No denying that.

That said, it doesn’t change the fact that TMC has quietly shifted into a company that prioritizes volume and short-term vision above all else. It’s a “scale over soul” approach - pricing by volume in order to gain broader appeal, not to build a brand.

That strategy might work in the short term, but when you look at true luxury marques (think M cars or AMG), they build low-volume, engineering-driven cars that actually build brand equity and still make good margins. Lexus used to flirt with that space, but those days seem long gone.

Of course, to each their own. But honestly, if this is the direction they’re going, I’d rather just buy a Toyota and save some money. At least then I know what I’m getting.

I hear ya. Understand enthusiasts are more vocal and more on the message boards. The GX and TX etc are sure bets and will sell in much higher volume than what a real enthusiast will want. Lexus for the most part continues to nail reliability and make an attractive product to most. They nailed their SUVs.
