Lexus LS Sedan to Get V8 Hybrid Engine Option?

Lexus LS 2021 Facelift

The Lexus LS sedan is rumoured to get a mid-cycle refresh next year, and now a camouflaged prototype spotted in Japan by Mag-X essentially confirms the fact.

Like most facelifts, the focus is on the lights and bumpers, and the changes seem relatively minor. There is a hint that this LS may be equipped with autonomous tech — from Lexus Enthusiast forum member TurboLag:

Mag-X also suggests a V8 hybrid 600h powertrain will be returning to the LS sedan, though it’s unclear if it would be the previously used 2UR-FSE 5L V8 or a new engine altogether. There’s also a hint of a possible 4-cylinder engine option, though this is unlikely to reach North America regardless.

Why is no one talking about this ? Facelift for next year and new engines ?
Interesting! I'm using machine translation, so add some grains of salt, but it says there will be a new turbo 4 hybrid for the low end, and a 600h on the high end with a 5-liter V8 (presumably the LC's in some detuned form) as part of a hybrid system.

The way I understood the Google Translation, the August 2021 (2022 model year) midlife refresh for the 5th-gen Lexus LS will not only bring a new turbo 4 hybrid for the low end but mark the return of the LS 600h with what appears to be the 5-liter 2UR-FSE V8 hybrid powertrain from the 4th-gen LS 600h and the latest (3rd-gen) Toyota Century.

That's some interesting 180 degree flipping if they're bringing back the 4LS hybrid system as-is.

I don't know much about engine development, but wouldn't it be possible to take the new TTV8 and de-turbo it and pair it to a hybrid system?

That seems more likely than carrying over the 2UR (I'm assuming the TTV8 is Dynamic Force) but who knows with TMC and engines?

yes. It would be basically a two of those new 2.0l engines in V config. But it would not be 600h without turbos I dont think.

@Joaquin Ruhi - Morning sir so the LS will be refreshed next year? so what will be the motor choices? I might as well wait now.
A 2021 model year refresh for 5LS is highly likely, but I'm not really sure what it will consist of, much less whether the rumored new Dynamic Force V8 will come in time for the 2021 MY refresh.

@Joaquin Ruhi yeah that’s what the group had been discussing. I don’t think it will get a v8... the F model yes but regular model no. The 5.0 liter is going out so why put it in the LS. I see performance gains on the 3.5 TTV6. I’m going to check out the hybrid also.

@Joaquin Ruhi , considering Geneva (the biggest European Auto Show and a very important one worldwide) is just around the corner and I'm pretty sure we won't get anything new to show... Even a new set of wheels would improve current trend...
