Video: Introducing the Lexus RTI Touchpad Controller

The next-generation Lexus infotainment controller, the Remote Touch Interface touchpad, debuted last week in the RC coupe at the Tokyo Motor Show — while there’s little detail on how the system works, Lexus did release a quick video demonstration:

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this new touchpad is the haptic feedback, which should make the system easy to use while driving. There’s also hints of pinching, swiping and even letter writing in the video — it’s exciting to see Lexus readopt a touch interface, and I’m looking forward to learning more details.

Good ad. I would've kept it to one minute, but a solid ad. Lexus, and Toyota, have shown they know how haptic works, and how to do it right, unlike Cadillac, for example. If this works as advertised, as Lexus' always do, this is a great feature, and gets rid of the reach to the dash, and the fingerprints on it for life..... BD

I'm underwhelmed. The manufacturer who gives buyers an option of old-fashioned buttons will soon find out whether they prefer ever-changing needlessly computerized gimmick controls, or far easier to use buttons.

Hmm, something I'm missing on my IS. A responsive touchpad is one thing, the console must be able to follow the selected orders... But anyway, a good evolution I think.

RTI Touchpad looks to be an improvement, but Lexus already had a very responsive touch screen that was pretty superior in the past. With technology we have with tablets and ipads, it's like a step backwards to confine our controls to a small touchpad. Give us back our center console real estate for proper cup holders and back the touch screen display Lexus!
