2013 Tokyo Motor Show Trip: A Visit to Japan

The Lexus RC will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show this week, and I’m here in Japan to bring you live coverage of the new coupe’s reveal.

Along with the Motor Show, the week in Japan will be full of activities — among the highlights is to the Fuji Speedway to drive some unusual F SPORT models, a ride in an autonomous Lexus, and some laps in the Toyota fuel cell vehicle. I’ll also be meeting with senior Lexus executives, visiting the giant Megaweb facility, and even taking a trip to Toyota City to see some robots.

My plan is to post live coverage from both Fuji Speedway and the Tokyo Motor Show, with more detailed photo galleries and articles to follow — regular Lexus news should continue uninterrupted, though posting may be sporadic at times.

One very small suggestion that I hope you will pass on to the Sans at Lexus: I have have owned/leased 5 RXs since 1998. The current (from 2012 onwards) are death traps when making a turn greater than 20 degrees. The thick A pillar combined with a huge side view mirror makes turns an act of faith. This is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen (not from me). Turning left is an exercise in fear because sometimes the eye gets tricked into thinking the car on your right at an intersection is behind you. I'm not kidding. This never happened prior to 2012 and it is due to the oversize side view mirror and its positioning. It should be a bit further back on the door to allow for sight lines. When my current lease on the RX350 is up in 2014 December, I will after 16 years on RXs not leasing another one because the 2014s will have the same problem. I also have a 200CT which does not have this problem and I'm delighted. I am hopeful that the 2014 NX will overcome this issue and I can continue my really (otherwise) relationship with L:exus.
