Psychedelic Lexus SC Commercial from 1997

I have absolutely no idea what’s happening in this 1997 Lexus SC commercial:

“Road to your subconscious” notwithstanding, I really think the SC driver should pull over and sleep it off.

The problem with this commercial isn't that it has hallucinogenic imagery. The problem is that a Lexus SC300/400 from 1997 wasn't as fast as the commercial suggests. If Lexus had sold the car with the correct 1JZGTE engine in the USA then the commercial would make total sense.
