Top Gear Reviews the 2013 Lexus GS 450h F Sport

Top Gear Magazine’s Tom Ford has reviewed the Lexus GS 450h F Sport, and found it to be “better than the old GS, surprisingly nimble, [with a] nice interior and a properly interesting choice.”

(Despite the overall enthusiasm, the £74k price leads to an unflattering final score of 11/20.)

Update: Looks like Top Gear has made a top mistake — according to the Lexus UK blog, the GS 450h F Sport package is only £50,995. As commenter Club Lexis points out, chances are there’s been some confusion between Pounds and €uros.

Update 2: I sent out a tweet to Tom Ford about the pricing mistake, and he was nice enough to give some background, stating that “the price was a ‘mistake’ by Lexus, who were asked 3 times…but when the PR tells you that’s what it costs, you have to believe them – but whole review coloured by it.” [Source One, Source Two]

The price has now been changed on the Top Gear website, though the actual review remains unchanged.

I'm guessing that price is more than a 535i in Europe? BD

UK BMW 5-series prices (in pounds)  535i = 38,000  Hybrid 5 = 46,000  550i = 53,000  M5  = 73,000  Considering you can buy an M5 for a thousand pounds less than a GS450h, it seems that the GS is ridiculously overpriced.  Anyone know why Lexus vehicles costs so much in the UK? I don't understand why a GS Hybrid starts at 74k but a hybrid 5-series starts at 46k. No wonder Lexus barely sells anything there. I love Lexus but it would be hard to pay M5-money for a GSh.

The 74K price is totally incorrect.  It's 51K

Extremely glad to hear its only 51k!

    51k is still a 5k more than Hybrid5 , with extra 2k , you can get 550i ... but I couldn't get something that isn't a Lexus .

2 points here - 1. Basic GS450h is £45K, £1K cheaper than BMW Hybrid 5.  Then both the GS450h F-Sport and GS450h Premier versions are £51K. 2. GS450h F-Sport in the UK includes the Lexus Dynamic Handling System as standard.

I dont get it. It says on the Lexus UK website that the GS 450h is priced from £44,995. Is the F-sport version that much more expensive?

The 450h has 3 spec levels £44,995 is for the basic one, the top spec 450h is £50,995 the same as the F Sport,. Then there is the options list, sunroof (£1000), premier sound system with 12.3 inc screen (£1000), radar cruse control ACC/PCC (£3300, NOT available on F Sport), metallic paint (£610), led headlights (£350)

Looks to me they got confused between Pounds and  €uros. The current GS450h Pack President is priced 72.000 €uros not pounds !   £74000 =  88.600 €uros would just be ridiculous! However 74.000 €uros seems pretty right. (that would equal £ 61.800)

Makes sense, when I read the review I was thinking Euros instead of a Pounds too.

Don't expect a praise to toyota from most part of media in Europe. It's the enemy. And if TG magazine has the same editorial line than TG tv, it's a miracle that they didn't throw away the car over a cliff: They hate all related to toyota, except for the Hilux.

They have only updated the price at the top, the £74k price is still mentioned twice down the bottom of the article.
