Lexus LS 400 Included in Edmunds 100 Greatest Cars of All Time

While it’s impossible to agree with all their choices, Edmunds’ list of the 100 Greatest Cars of All Time was smart enough to include the original 1990 Lexus LS 400 at 49th overall, calling it “a brilliant luxury car that bested the Germans in several ways for a lot less money. It invented a brand and reinvented a genre.”

(Disclaimer: the actual order of the cars on this list is ridiculous.)

I'm surprised myself while also agreeing that the Lexus LS 400 deserves this very much!

No surprise this was included in my opinion. The LS400 really did change the luxury market. It showed the Germans that quality really does matter and it opened the door for other brands like Acura, Infiniti, Hyundai, etc. Proud owner of '97 LS400.

The 1st gen LS400 did make a big impact in the auto industry.  It sure caused BMW and MBZ to look at themselves and start making improvement. You can have both luxury, quality and reliability.  It also shows that the Japanese can also make luxury cars. Talking about the list, I didn't know my CRX made it to list, ranking at 34!  Still have and still loving it.

I feel very strongly that the MR2 Roadster/Spyder/MR-S should've been on the list.

I agree! Also, the supra should be higher on the list. What about the 2000 GT,IS-f & LFA?Not only are all the cars in this post favourites of mine, but arn't they all the first from Japan to challange & beat Europeans & Americans at their own game?Surely, they deserve more recognition. They're certainly, they're at the top of my list, not just for excitment & driving pleasure, but for quality & reliability. And has it slipped everyone's mind, the innovations of the mkiv supra?Near perfect 50/50 weight ratio, hollow rear wing, hollow core carpet fibers? What other cars were being built like this back then?It is the most collectible car made in limited numbers since the Shelby Cobra & still fetching near mrsp prices for some examples.

What about Land Cruisers,4Runners(still miss my 1st gen)Also I know loggers who have big, heavy Dodge Duramax & Tundra pick ups,but the only way they can get further back in their lots is with Tacomas.Thats their lively hoods.Doesn't that deserve some recognition?Just for the record,I'm not biased,as I currently have a Nissan Quest & Subaru Outback sitting in my driveway,Happy to see '92-'96 Camry on the list though. My '93 LE V-6 was THE toughest vehicle I ever owned(10 times the Accord EX-I Iowned before it.)My wife & I still regret selling it!

I have a '92 lexus ls400 and it runs like it's new. just keep up with the oil and the belts and it will run for a long time to come. i have 160,000 miles on it and i can still hit 120 with no problem. I know I could go faster but im kind of scared to haha. and also if you turn the (trac) traction control off you can do drifts an cookies!
