Lexus confirms CT 200h US launch

In a Wards Auto article (subscriber only), Lexus USA has confirmed that the CT 200h will go on sale in the U.S. “sometime between early and mid 2011.” It will become the second dedicated hybrid model in the US, after the HS 250h. According to Mark Templin, VP of Lexus USA, “When the all-new Lexus CT 200h enters the market, it will be the only hybrid vehicle in the emerging premium compact segment.”

  1. What are your thougths on whether or not the decision to sell the car in the states increases the chances of the CT being offered with other hybrid drivelines (the rumoured 300h and 400h)?

My feeling is that Lexus is going to wait and see how the market reacts to the CT 200h. If there’s a decent enthusiast market, they might release more powerful variants, but if it builds into a more eco-car like th Prius, they might just leave it as-is.
