So far, there has been no impact at sales... what impacted VW sales is sharp drop in VW's sales in China, which is huge part of their worldwide sales (3x bigger than Toyota's marketshare there). Drop started in July... it wont recover that soon.

However, VW will eventually become #1, there is no doubt about it... Toyota is simply not building capacity like they are, they are focused on profits and optimizations of current plants.

Nobody at this point can conclusively state what will or won't be the impact to VW or Audi sales. We have to wait and see for all events related to the scandal to play out.

VW is going to report an over 3 billion loss for the third quarter, their first loss in 15 years.

Hard to believe it's the first loss in 15 years, with the big effect the severe 2008-2009 recession had on car sales and profits. That, of course, is when both GM and Chrysler folded and got bought out.

This is just for the 3rd quarter too. Imagine how bad it's going to be in the 4th quarter and beyond.
