Speculation around Lexus coupes has been numerous over the last few years, including everything from the return of the LFA to a Toyota GR 86-based “UC” small sports coupe. Amongst those has been consistent chatter that at the end of their lifecycles, the RC and LC coupes would be replaced by one model positioned between them.
If such a coupe exists, should Lexus revive the SC name?

The Lexus SC: A tradition of design and performance

The first generation Lexus SC was developed in conjunction with the A80 Toyota Supra and Toyota Soarer, and released in 1991 in the United States as two models: the...

Yes! Bring back the SC and use the platform for a next generation SC and next generation Supra. I sure do miss my 1SC 400. I would assume we would get:

SC 350/350h
SC 500/500h

It would be sad to see the RC and LC fade into the sunset but at least we got to enjoy those great vehicles.

I could see it being the SC again.

That said, if it's a halfway split between the LC and the RC, it's gonna be another generational model downgrade.

It can't be a CLE hatchjob that gives you a C Coupe at E Coupe prices.

This thing needs to be nicer than the LC or it's a flop.

I think there is a world where this new coupe could be different from the 1RC and LC instead of having to necessarily be nicer than the LC. RC has been the entry level "IS coupe" of sorts, and both IS and RC are very old now... LC is very much a GT coupe. There's a lot of room in between those two classes for a new coupe to be successful, and trying to cover more ground with one model probably makes a better business case than two of them as we have now. They could do everything from a luxury trim to be more like LC, to a full blown F focused on performance.

The biggest changes I would expect are weight reduction and new powertrains, which would both create significant differences with RC and LC. If this revised GA-L platform has the car weighing 3,800- 4,000 lbs and they pair it with a 400hp turbocharged 4cyl, or say a ~450-500hp turbocharged hybrid powertrain, that will be a very different coupe for Lexus. Much more modern and probably more performance oriented as well.

I'm still very skeptical about the future of GA-L and ICE RWD products at Lexus beyond the LFR.
Hopefully Lexus puts the 3SC on the GA-L platform since the LC will fade into the sunset. Lexus needs to drop a V8 in the LS to bring it back to life. Bring the next generation IS onto the GA-L platform as well (current IS & RC still uses N platform). Also bring back the next generation GS as well!

Crown sedean (S230) and Mirai also use the GA-L platform as well.
