Rumor: 600 Horsepower Lexus RX Morizo RR Coming in 2028

Lexus fans wishing for a high performance crossover might indeed be lucky if a new rumor is correct: Japan’s Mag-X reports that Lexus is preparing a high performance RX “Morizo RR” for 2028 that would compete with the BMW X5 M and Audi RS Q8.

If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Lexus’ smallest CUV – the LBX – offers the Morizo RR high performance trim in select global markets and has been universally praised for its blend of performance, refinement, and premium features. The RX receiving the same Morizo RR treatment could be an exciting new chapter for Lexus’ most popular global CUV.

I hope they actually benchmark the X5M or RSQ8 when developing this car. Last time they somehow thought the RX500h FSP could get a lot of conquest sales when it's slower than competitor's base model.

I'm still waiting for the LC-F with a Twin Turbo V8. I'm not holding my breath this time. I passed out the last time and sold my LC500 and got a S63 AMG Coupe. I will believe it when I see it. The RX500h was in the right direction so I have some hope. I am also a Cowboys fan that thinks we are going to win the Superbowl at the start of every season so.....

Lexus was literally invented because the Toyoda name wasnt good enough for americans to be on a luxury car.

The Japanese are understandably not huge fans of the US, now a top family name "isnt good enough" for them, and then the new brand ends up being popular with rappers, and if anyone knows what many old japanese men are like, they arent exactly big on equality of races.

You think their cars have been systematically stuck 10% off being class leading by accident?

You think they cant make a reliable V8 that makes more power than it currently does?

The entire company is built on corner cutting, incremental efforts, good enough products, no adherance to a centrally planned vision of the brand, no control over toyota designers ripping off lexus design features (see LC500 and toyota sienna/camry), and using Lexus as a test bed to see how much you can rip off risk averse people for.

They constantly have employee uprisings and conflicts that never make it out of the company, and anyone who isnt a nepo baby gets worked to death.

It was a 30+ year bait and switch to move up crown/century/toyota in other markets.

Now that the US is no longer the focus of the global economy, they no longer have to pretend to care about western customers beyond phoning in lazy refreshes and uncompetitive-on-arrival offerings.

Now we get to see what the relentless pursuit of mediocrity looks like for Chinese consumers.

I was just being facetious. I work for a Lexus dealership so I do know what's really coming down the pipeline. Lexus just keeps teasing us with more power and sport but keeps showing up to gun fights with knives. I would love the LF-R but can't afford that. The LC500 really was a great looking and sounding car but fell short on power.. Too bad, a twin turbo V8 in it would have been awesome.

Had missed this in the Nurburgring industry test videos for May but had a look again and found another RX500H being tested (Other being a Copper Crest version being captured in March). Both had the plates that are similar to those used by Toyota Cologne (including those attached to the GR GT/LFR test cars on the Nurburgring, DAU prefix)

Why don't they just call it the RCF? Also it should have atleast a V6 if it thinks it can go toe-to-toe with the X5M, though realistically this has always been more of an X3 competitor. Not to mention, it is also FWD-based.

It frustrates me how easy it is to fix this, but they take all the wrong the moves. The Akio comments are a bit extreme, given the fact that he is still helping bring back fun to drive cars, and he is doing well on the Toyota side of things. Lexus needs work on a lot of fronts though.

I think what they should be doing is just have Lexus Appearance/Performance and then just reserve the "F" treatment for the highest end models. F has gotten far too diluted recently. Either F or this Morizo RR, they need to commit to one and only use it for actual performance vehicles. This means that F Appearance stuff can be renamed to Appearance and F-Sport performance can be renamed to Performance. Then simply reserve Lexus F for the highest end variant of what they have. So things like "LCF, RCF, LFR, etc." They should have atleast 6 cylinders each aswell. No 4 cylinder nonsense. Morizo RR does sound cool though. Maybe Morizo F? This is just a brain dump I need to think more about it.

Its not a Q8 rival. This is an X3 rival. They need 6 Cylinder power and RWD-biased powertrains.
