Thanks for some nifty driving back and forth between three counties and a few hundred miles on the IS250 F Sport, I was able to capture images of the 2018 Lexus LC500 in Caviar at Cars & Coffee Palm Beach. Not one week later, the more visually stunning LC500h in Atomic Silver was front and center as the showcase vehicle for Lexus at the 2016 Miami Beach International Auto Show.
With Lexus Southern Area Office executives on hand for the press conference, Lexus keyed on the newly freshened 2017 Lexus IS 200t and F Sport, then moved on to why the crowd had gathered: the Multi Stage Hybrid LC500h.
The Lexus spokesperson said specifically that the LC500 series would be a "2018 model that we expect to be landing at dealerships by April, 2017". That might take some mystery as to a timeline on where this car is.
Showing nearly production ready prototypes in public twice in one week in South Florida piques my interest even more as to what's left to pop open at the SEMA Show in 7 weeks. I'll just have to wait until I get to Las Vegas to find out.
While the reps in Palm Beach weren't open to more than the outside of the car, the Lexus factory and Southern Area reps on hand for the Official Press Day preview were more than happy to oblige my request for a closer look inside and under the hood. "Keep in mind this is still a prototype, so the welds are not pretty and it's a little rough under the hood," a Lexus executive reminded me. But the fit and finish of all exterior panels and the interior were stunning.
It kind of piqued my curiosity as to why there was such a large gap between the hood and the front body panel, and I got my answer when the hood was raised. There is a direct cold air vented intake molded into the shroud that feeds right into the powerful engine. Subtle, but effective.
Check out the album featuring both the LC500 and the LC500h. While I always prefer Matador Red or Infrared on my Lexus, the Atomic Silver was the perfect choice to place underneath the T5 Fluorescent lighting at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
