Another show car in Detroit previewing an upcoming SUV will be the Infiniti QX50 concept. Infiniti has already revealed the vehicle which we’re glad to report looks just like the stunning QX Sport Inspiration concept shown in 2016. Hopefully the next-generation QX50 that the latest concept previews looks just as good. The concept also previews some new technology bound for the next QX50 including Nissan and Infiniti’s ProPilot driver assist feature and VC-Turbo variable compression engine.

I've got to say, this thing looks really sharp. I hope the production model looks this good!

I might take some heat for saying this, but I think it definitely looks better than its Lexus NX/RX counterparts.

The production car is scheduled for NYIAS. This is more like what happened with the original shown as a "concept" in April 2007 at NYIAS and also the FX45 Concept shown in January 2002, roughly a year after the 2001 design freeze for the S50 FX (35 & 45) and 1 year before launch of the production FX on January 24, 2003. With the latter (FX), the FX actually went into production roughly 2 months before it officially debuted at 2003 NAIAS in early January of 2003, just weeks before going on sale. The production EX was shown at Concours d' Elegance in August 2007.

The date of QX50 launch is practically early 2018, so naturally they prefer to not show you it in full too early. The CUV borne of the P71A program is a Renault-Nissan CMF platform development, that leaves behind the RWD FM platform of yesterday. The real QX50 for that matter, as the current model I hardly consider it a QX anything. It will always be an "EX" to me, just as the so-called CV36 Q60 coupe was solely a G37 in my eyes.

The EX35 went on sale late in the year on December 21, 2007, like this QX50 will in December 2017 or January 2018. European launch was in 2008 if I remember, so early 2018 launch isn't out of the question either.

If you want a new RWD CUV from Infiniti, wait until next year for the next QX70 (FX30t) . The change in direction, delayed redesign of the QX50 a few years back and that of the MB partnership forcing them to start from scratch on some models.

Infiniti showed this FX45 Concept in January 2001, which was ironically at the time old news internally at Nissan, as the production styling had just been deciding on in the sometime before that and pending design freeze. The concept below was design effort from the spring-summer of 2000, but surpassed by the final design choice by December 2000, which Infiniti waited to tease in December 2001 and showed it as a thinly veiled concept in January 2002. That is basically what this QX50 Concept is, unlike the QX Sport Inspiration, which was based off of ideation sketches of the winning P71A design proposal from 2013-14.

I guess the production car is this week. We can accurately compare then.

I think the concept above is an actual QX50 concept debuting tomorrow, a "V2" from the QX Sport Inspiration concept - closer to production, but not yet production. I could be wrong...

@mmcartalk I think the proportions on this concept are great. RX and NX have terrible front overhang, unfortunately.

Infiniti’s most advanced vehicle ever to debut on November 28

teaser-for-infiniti-suv-debuting-at-2017-los-angeles-auto-show_100631740_l.jpg

Infiniti has released a teaser sketch for what the automaker is calling its “most advanced” vehicle ever. Unfortunately that’s all the information we have right now.

The vehicle, which judging from the teaser will be an SUV, makes its debut in Los Angeles in the same week the city’s annual auto show opens its doors.

That means the mystery SUV isn’t the redesigned QX80 which has also been teased. We’ll see the new QX80 at next week’s 2017 Dubai Motor Show.

One possibility for the identity of the vehicle is the redesigned QX50 which is due on sale in 2018, as a 2019 model. We’ve already been treated to a preview of the new QX50 and know that the vehicle will be introducing some firsts for the upmarket Japanese brand.

One of these will be Infiniti's variable compression technology for engines, dubbed VC-Turbo. The engine technology constantly changes the cylinder compression ratio for better performance or better fuel economy, depending on circumstance.

Another will be some self-driving features grouped under Nissan and Infiniti’s ProPilot heading. In the new QX50, ProPilot is expected to enable the vehicle to crawl in traffic, cruise on the highway and keep track of surrounding vehicles all on its own.

We’ll know soon enough what Infiniti is planning as the vehicle of the mystery SUV is now just three weeks out.

iI've been asked to give feedback on their future advertising campaign so I've seen a bit. Let's be honest, its a SUV, it will lease well, its going to sell.

This car is late, for something designed well over 3 years ago, approaching the half-year mark on top of 3 years from that point. They are too slow and need to get a better grip on quality control. The idea to produce this in Mexico as the first vehicle, hopefully means they are taking pre-production issues seriously and not like the Q60 back in 2015 which ran very rampant.

This will do well as said above, even if it deviates from the original formula like future *FX* replacement will.
