The RX line (big dog) is very successful and can't think of anything to improve it. There are already a 2 row and 3 row RX and F Sport versions. Lexus could expand the operation of the navigation/infotainment along with the touch screen to also include the mouse controller, controls on the steering wheel and voice command, similar to the 2020 Mercedes GLE. Maybe introduce an electric version of the RX such as the RX 400e...but how many people will actually purchase an electric RX because of the range? I think the hybrid RX could use solid state batteries for quick charging and longer battery life as well as savings in weight. Other than that the RX line is just fine the way it is.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...bmw-by-all-of-34-cars-in-tight-u-s-sales-race
BMW AG’s namesake brand was neck-and-neck with its German rival in the U.S. last month, edging Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz by a mere 34 cars and keeping the race for sales bragging rights close into the final stretch.

BMW posted a 6% gain in September, delivering to 27,467 cars and sport utility vehicles. The 3 Series sedan was up 19% and the X5 SUV more than doubled sales from a year ago.

Mercedes deliveries rose 4.8% to 27,433, paced by deliveries of its GLC and GLE SUVs, which jumped 13% and 28%, respectively.

Neck-and-Neck

BMW has a lead of more than 8,200 vehicles over Mercedes year-to-date. But the latter is regaining some momentum after supplier bottlenecks at its assembly plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, left dealers with inventory shortages earlier this year.

Toyota Motor Corp.’s Lexus, which outsold the German luxury leaders in both July and August, reported a 17% plunge in U.S. deliveries last month. Sales of the ES, the brand’s top sedan, tumbled 36%, while the RX SUV, its most popular light truck, fell 12%.

Volkswagen AG’s Audi division also slumped in September, with a 17% slide. Deliveries of its best-selling SUV, the Q5, fell 41%.

Part of the big decline here and elsewhere was because of the Holiday. Last year it wasn't included in September so the numbers are skewed a bit. Obviously BMW/Benz still being up shows they have a big army of new product.

A couple things did stand out. Infiniti sold less units than the RX with an over 40% drop. The GLC almost sold as many as the RX.

More and more reports keep coming out about the increasing cost of cars and how loans are getting longer. I'm sure we all get sticker shock now. Never in my life would I have thought I would see 52k on an ES that cost 25k in 1992. Prices and wage are not rising equally at all. People have to get stuffed into longer payments to afford a new car. Meanwhile more and more vehicles keep getting pumped out and there is a slow but growing shift to electric cars.

Going to be really interesting the next ten years.

Lexus should also bring in a 2 row GX as well which would be at a lower price point and have more cargo room than the 3 row GX. This would also increase sales as well. F Sport the GX as well...and bring in Android Auto and more USB's

Worth mentioning that at 18,860 for the month, Lexus as a brand now trails in sales behind the Model 3, which sold around 20,250. As a brand, Tesla sold around 23,025 in September 2019. Sad to see how stagnant Lexus has become relative to its competition.

The reason the outcry is that, Lexus decreased incentives since August. October numbers are holding the line at least in visible Lexus Customer Cash. Now dealer cash that the dealers have no obligation of giving to customers is the elephant in the room. Have they increased to help push vehicles, or are they also lack luster.

The way i see inventory levels, TMC either is stocking up cars in preparation of market tariffs or due to the EOL of certain product lines while SOP of their refreshes.

Again I agree with most of guys here

Lexus shall be focused on the FR not the FF even if it's rebadged

Lexus shall insert some real design line as they face a lot of bad impressions with this current design

Lexus shall sell with no incentives what so ever, so that its value remaining higher

If Lexus could sell all their vehicles without any incentives, they probably would have explored that path already.

My take is simple
How many ad you see for ES/RX vs GS/IS/RC
Lexus just built them for small image but there effort are on the FF based cars

They need to switch the position of the FF and FR in the lineup

This isn't isolated to Lexus. They passed Audi, Cadillac, Lincoln etc etc......Audi has fresh product and they got passed....

I don't understand all this kneejerk reaction. Sales don't drop overnight because consumers suddenly realized Lexus cars suck. When this kind of sudden variation happens it's usually because of factors other than product competitiveness. It could be macroeconomics, it could be a supply hiccup, it could be halt of incentives (the most common cause). The only time consumers stop buying a brand because "it sucks" is when a high profile flaw is revealed, like the sticky throttle, like the GM ignition switch, like the Takata airbags, like the Dieselgate.

Sales decline due to lacking competitiveness is usually chronic. You only see it over a decade long period. Failing car companies die a slow death. But statistics say Lexus is not in that camp.

Not here to argue with you but I think it's been a while that people think so. And Lexus is constantly behind BBs now. BBs are refreshing their models almost like crazy that I feel they are pushing out models even before I am fully familiar with the old one.

New A4 and A5 are not on sale yet. So Audi is still competing with their line up in their last year. Lexus should release new IS this year for 2020 model if they are on a normal 3 year refresh cycle, but they didn't and I don't know if they are gonna release it next year. This model is technically 6 year old now and stepping into 7th year. Cadillac and Lincoln..hmm are they even actively competing in this segment?

My point was Tesla being third in sales last month isn't a Lexus owner issue. They leaped past everyone. Audi's lineup is still much fresher than Lexus. The A6/A7/A8/Q8/E Tron is new, the R8 has been refreshed and now the Q3 is otw with a refreshed A5 etc/Q7 etc....

Not sure if anyone has paid attention but the Q8 is selling like mad. Audi can't keep them in stock. 600-800 units a month of a 75k-100k vehicle.
