Welp.. so much for my GR Celica being the MR2 theory...
I hope Toyota keeps the MR2 name for the mid-engine car they are developing.
I think there's also a market for a new Celica. They can have FWD 1.5T Hybrid as the standard model, with e-AWD as an option. Then offer a GR Celica that has AWD, manual, and 2.0T. Offer the vehicle in both 2 and 4 door coupe variants. Slot it in between the Corolla and Camry, and give it some retro looks that harken back to the days of the GT-FOUR/All-Trac.
With SUVs and pickups becoming increasingly expensive, we could see a resurgence of fun cars on the market. Even Ford is thinking about offering a small RWD sedan.

The Carina ED was built on the FWD Celica platform. But before that there was a RWD model in the early 1980s, the Celica Camry; it was the first use of the Camry name.
