The GX550 has almost the same GVWR as the LX600 and has less load on the rear axle. This means it can withstand a higher tongue weight. Most modern trucks and SUVs are limited by suspension load and weight distribution instead of power and braking. For example the 200-series can easily get 4000kg+/9000lbs+ towing with a GCM upgrade in the Australian market.Does anyone have any insight in what makes the new GX so capable when it comes to tow rating? With 9,000lb tow limit, it outperforms the old GX460 with its 6,500lb limit, and even the behemoth Tahoe only has a limit of 8,400lbs.
I'm really curious which F platform GX550 is actually based on. In terms of weight ratings (curb, gross, payload) it is much closer to the F1-based LC300/LX instead of the F2-based Prado/4Runner. It's more of a de-contented LX instead of an upscale Prado.
