Lexus should really take advantage of how popular the GX is right now and drop a high performance version, whether they call it an F or Morizo RR, they need to build one. Go all out like the Bronco Raptor, with a more aggressive hood, wide fender flares, and all that.

It will sell

1 inch lift + real 33 inch tires + LX600 tune = perfect GX
Plus a front locker. Giving the GX the V35A with the LX tune or the 420hp performance tune would open the door to offering the LC250 with the 349hp detuned/small turbo version of the V35A. This would give a bit more incentive to purchase a LC250 over a 4Runner.

I have been considering a new car with higher towing capacity. My current X5 is rated for 6,000lbs, and I would like something more capable, but I loathe pick up trucks, and I don't want a behemoth like a Tahoe and its derivatives.

I was very surprised to learn the GX has over 9,000lb towing capacity, while the 4Runner is only rated for 5,000lb. Wonder what makes the difference, is the frame reinforced, or different suspension? I though the 4Runner would be the more rugged out of the two.

So now I am really considering the GX. It is roughly the same size as my X5, so it is going to be easy to live with for daily driving, parking, etc. It is also decently priced, with fair MSRP. Do the dealers mark it up, or is that nonsense over?

P.S. The GX550 towing capacity is actually higher than the LX570, and substantially higher than the previous GX460 and GX470 models. Very impressive.

Does anyone have any insight in what makes the new GX so capable when it comes to tow rating? With 9,000lb tow limit, it outperforms the old GX460 with its 6,500lb limit, and even the behemoth Tahoe only has a limit of 8,400lbs.
