1st Place: Toyota Sienna

HIGHS: Gas-savvy hybrid, four-wheel traction, a place for everything.
LOWS: Looks only a parent could love, sounds like a Shop-Vac, could use an infotainment update.
VERDICT: A comfy companion whether the road trip is great or a disaster.

Grey flannel seats on the woodland edition. Interested to see what that's like.

Only Toyota Safety Sense 2.0? When more and more models are getting TSS 3.0?

Nice as always. I hate minivans but the new gen Sienna is the one I'd consider. I turn my head every time I see that wild side surfacing irl.

We rode in one to the airport when we went on vacation this summer. My reaction when I got in and finally realized that it was the latest Sienna we were in was "meh", my now default reaction to American-made Toyotas. The plastics were hard and cheap-looking and the ambiance was rather dull (but at least it was not all dour black inside). It was no doubt a low-level trim, which is fine for an airport limo but not as a daily personal vehicle.

In contrast, the ride home was in an ES. It was after dark so I did not notice the interior quality but I did notice how quiet and smooth it was.

Toyota North America really needs to improve the interior quality of their vehicles. Get away from the dour black and improve the quality of the softex upholstery and interior plastics.

Valid points, but without competition in product quality and customer adoption, Toyota is going to continue said MO.

As nice as the new Sienna is, I was in one as an airport shuttle and there was nothing but vibrations coming from that engine, and there was a lot of noise coming from the wheel wells, tires and a lot of wind noise too.

About this new Sienna, as much as I love the new updates it got, the infotainment system looks aftermarket as heck. Not good.

I've never been in a high trim Sienna before and I feel very negative about the common taxi/rental trims. Even compared to a base Alphard the two are on completely different levels. And it feels more cramped than the Alphard despite being much larger. Maybe they had to shrink passenger volume to make space for cargo space.
