Is that a moveable toilet? Seriously TF is that?
Its just some fun design exercise for japan, not a movable toilet. It wasn't exactly feasible for lexus to keep the V8 in the IS. They have to start winding down production of the current model to prepare for the next generation model, and none of their competitors really offer it. I think their decision makes total sense here. I think a 6er should happen though, as it is a luxury sports sedan. The V8 is likely reserved for the LFR if I were to guess.

A V8 in the IS simply is not feasible. I think as additional products these work. It is clear that the LS is becoming a series focused on luxury and space rather than just a single model, which is a good thing IF they can release a sedan later down the line. The pod concept is clearly a design exercise and not much more, and if it does make it to production it could be good in cramped cities. Lexus does have a history in aquatics with the LY650, and I think this is a successor to that, which I do welcome. The Lexus drone isnt actually a lexus product, but rather apart of Toyota Group's larger mobility mission, which is pretty cool. Going back to your point about the IS, a V8 in the next generation is not feasible (they killed it off since they are probably winding down production of the current generation). I think it should have a 6 cylinder engine that makes a healthy power number in line with BMW's 3 series and Mercedes's C-Klasse. That is actually viable while still maintaining a level of sportiness and driving pleasure. An EV-only IS would be a travesty. In short, a v8 in the IS just is not feasible anymore, but I think a V6 performance hybrid is the way forward, which is still a good powertrain, and the concepts that Lexus have revealed is a part of a wider mobility mission which is quite cool, and doesnt necessarily mean that the next IS will be a fridge.

I just don't get it... So many concepts in the last few years and we're stuck with basically less than what we used to get...

At least they could time this differently and announced at TRON premiere or something...

People are simultaneously out here talking V12 in Century and keeping the already existing V8 is "not feasible" despite all other luxury makes rolling out more and more V8s, etc. They already can't make a good turbo engine. The reality is toyota is in a race to the lowest common denominator.

Nothing but excuses for a company that does nothing but phone it in and cut corners.

The V8 is completely feasible and Toyota is intentionally deciding to atrophy the lineup and make them margin-heavy also-rans for badge-suckers. "Luxury" cars with plastic interiors and the same styling as a Corolla on ancient platforms and terrible, unreliable, underpowered motors.

No it literally is not feasible. The V12 century talk was entirely speculative. and they literally got rid of the V12. There is no other sedan in it's class that isnt getting replaced in the near future which will keep the V8. I don't know what "other brands" you are talking about. The current gen needs to be replaced I will give you that.

If the LS van does go into production with six wheels, I wonder if it will have an e-axle on both rear axles? It seems like tire scrub could be an issue too, so rear steer on both axles (at varying degrees) would be really beneficial. At the very least, a small amount of rear steer on the rearmost axle would be needed.

The rotating center row is interesting. It looks like the "sliding" door uses the same airplane style mechanism as the Century SUV.

The C63 AMG will go back to V8 to fix the expensive mistake they made with that 4-cylinder PHEV powertrain. The Mach 4 Mustang sedan will also stay with the V8.

We are not seeing any fix to the V35 issue in the immediate future while we at least get a semi-believable V8 rumor. The V6 hybrid is even less believable than V8: they don't have a parallel hybrid architecture that can scale beyond the 457hp iForce Max. They need similarly complex solutions like the Benz's P2+P4 eAxle or BMW's P2 with 2-stage reduction solutions. The GR GT will use a P3 or P4 motor integrated in a rear-mounted transaxle which cannot be used on conventional front mounted transmission designs. Extrapolating from the planned 1.5T/2.0T specs gives 480-600PS range for the "gentle" version of the new V8, so it's definitely within the range for an IS500/ISF successor, if such thing exists.

Your point about a V8 C63 has been rumoured to be false. Reportedly it will be getting a 6cylinder powertrain. I am not sure about the Mach 4 Mustang though. This will be based on the modular 2 liter engine architecture, that is also going to be the basis of the 4.0L V8 found in the upcoming Lexus LFR and GR GT. Anyways time will tell what will happen. I hope for a V8 option as well, but I am not getting my hopes up.

It is probably going into production as you described it (and DEFINITELY with rear-steer). I also think they could bring it to the US, since Mercedes is bringing their VLS to America as well. I think since LS is becoming a model range (with the MPV, the Coupe, etc.) Maybe we could see a Sedan as well. In an ideal world I shuffle some things in an out of this model range though.
