Lexus May 2011 Sales Report

USA

Lexus USA has published their sales figures for May, and if anything, it shows the drastic effect the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake has had on the Japanese automaker:

It’s a simple fact, really — if you don’t have the inventory, you have nothing to sell, and I don’t think there’s much more to these numbers than that. The good news is that Lexus expects to be back (PDF link) to near full production in June, but even that silver lining has a drawback: these models will take some time to reach North America, and probably won’t be in dealerships until August — meaning we can expect to see a couple more lean months.

Canada

The May sales for Lexus Canada tell a similar story, as sales fell 30.3% to 989 units.

It usually takes just over 1 month for a new Lexus made in Japan to reach the USA, go through the port and to arrive at a dealer - and this is on the east coast. I would imagine it may be a bit shorter on the west coast. So if production gets ramped back up in June, hopefully, we could see some cars in July.

    It's much longer up here in Canada -- I believe it takes three months for cars to arrive.

I'm not buying my new IS 250 until November at the earliest, so hopefully there will be good deals to be had by then.

I can see Lexus making a big comeback soon! Krew: the menu on the top of your website with the model lineup has been messed up for quite awhile, and it's like that on any computer I go on.

If you think about it the sales are quite good, considering right now Lexus/Toyota are going through "worst case scenario"

    It's quite possible we'll never see numbers this low again once production normalizes, and if this is as bad as it gets, I don't think Lexus really has much to worry about.

Lol the Germans are probably cheering now, but let them laugh, because I doubt they'll be outselling Lexus for over 20yrs like how Lexus PWNED all them dirty Germans.. Next year I expect Lexus to be back up to #1
