The irony is that Lexus began its decline after the discontinuation of the GS.
The GSF and the GS in general to me was a very important car, volume and the SUV market really was a factor there. They sell so many ES's to older demos and then prefer to sell SUVs is my guess as to the ending for the GS not making sense for Lexus at the time. I wouldve really loved a M5 higher F car competitor from Lexus.

Love these images!

The story of these two cars is more intertwined than people realize.
Yup. The first Lexus LC mule was in fact a Lexus GS.

The GS was really proof to everyone that Lexus is a serious brand. Toyoda-san killing it off is something that I will never understand. I love the guy for all that he's done to revitalize Toyota and generate so much adoration and love for the brand, but his handling of Lexus is truly heartbreaking, and downright disappointing.

Him saying that "his middle name is Lexus" but to then do an about-face and treat the brand like this is a slap across the face.

The GSF was also made in the same plant as the LFA if im not mistaken, which the LC shares, which makes sense of this image also.
