Lexus CT to Get New Engine Option?

Also mentioned in last week’s news.com.au interview with the president of Lexus International, Kiyotaka Ise, was the possibility of a CT with a gas-only engine option:

Lexus, though, could offer a regular petrol engine in its CT hatch. The rival for the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series has remained since launch with just a single drivetrain – a petrol-electric arrangement borrowed from the Toyota Prius.

Ise-san says the hybrid drivetrain reinforces the premium aspect of the hatch but admits consumer demand could persuade them to offer an alternative.

“Some customers are asking [for a petrol engine],” said Ise-san. “[So] it’s worth thinking about.”

With the CT now established and selling well in markets around the world, expanding the engine options to include a gas engine is a smart move — the model’s driving dynamics are excellent, and something more powerful than the CT 200h’s 134 total system horsepower would be most welcome.

Naturally, this leads to some speculation — what engine will be used? Could the CT be in line to get the new turbo-charged four-cylinder engine announced last week?

I think the CT with a turbo charged boxer engine would be sick. It would demolish the WRX STI, especially if the car is tuned to handle all terrains like a pro. Even if they added a 3.5L engine, the car would be awesome. Hell, even the 250 engine would be great. Anything's better than 134hp.

A 200 HP engine would do wonders for this car.  The chassis can definitely handle more power. I've only been asking for this since it's launch...... BD

What if use the same drivetrain from ES300h? It would be nice for both MPG and Power.

    read again, they didnt say anything about another hybrid again, only gas option.

     Yep I read it all, but I think for Lexus a hybrid powertrain should be better than 4 cylinder petrol engine. That's it.

Ofcourse they should have other engine options, all othe brands have more then one engine option.. And the 2.5l 200hp hybrid from Camry would be a great option..and a real F-sport with the new 2.0 turbo engine, that can race against the new Audi S3 and the Bmw 135i...I dont understand why Lexus is so slow with more engin options..Hurry Lexus..

How good the car also useless if the repair cost higher than a brand new car. My ct200h was an example, repair cost higher than new car. Really suck Lexus.

    What repairs? I own a CT since March 2011 and I've not had a single issue but extremely high savings on gas costs. Just your typical oil changes and maintenance like a gas car is all you need. Sure Lexus will charge a premium for the maintenence but so does its luxury competitors and to mitigate that, do your maintenance at Toyota.

A diesel engine would be a much better choice for the European market

     Lexus and diesel = history.  Forget about that.   An extra power hybrid engine is needed.  A CT 300h would be top !

i prefer the new 300h that will debut in both IS & GS soon it will keep it all hybrid and also with more than 250hp

This is exactly what I posted in the Lexus idea engine. The positives of making a gas only engine. A CT250 would bring the CT down below $30k because we all know that hybrids cost more than gas only options. And if we are lucky we could even see a CT-F with the 3.5L V6 from the IS350
