Lexus Trademarks “RX 550h+” and “TX 400h”

Lexus has trademarked two new hybrid models, one in the RX lineup and another in the TX lineup: RX 550h+ and TX 400h.

What might those mean?

RX 550h+

The RX 550h+ could indicate the RX will receive the TX 550h+’s powertrain: a naturally aspirated V6 with a plug-in hybrid battery system producing a total of 404 horsepower. Trademarks often happen 12-36 months before introduction, so depending on how far out the RX 550h+ may be, it could also offer a new, updated powertrain not seen before.

TX 400h

The TX 400h is a bit of a mystery. Presently, Lexus’ hybrid systems are split between the 246 horsepower “350h” system seen in the NX 350h and RX 350h, and the 366 horsepower “500h” powertrain seen in the RX 500h and TX 500h F SPORT Performance. If we split the difference between 350h and 500h, it’s possible the new TX 400h could offer 275 to 300 horsepower but MPG estimates are much harder with an unknown hybrid system.

Many shoppers have wanted to see the Toyota Highlander and Grand Highlander’s 2.5L I4 hybrid system under the hood of the TX, so it’s possible that Lexus is adapting the system for a larger battery to suit luxury buyers looking for more power and performance.

Lexus hybrids continue to be some of the fastest selling, most desirable luxury models so whether these are net-new additions to the lineup or replacements for existing models, new hybrid crossovers are sure to be welcome additions.

I think the 550h+ will just replace the 450h+ (like Kirk Kreifels said).
The TX400h should have come from launch. 35ish MPG would be amazing. I( think this is likely to come with the 5th gen hybrid system found in the Camry. My guess is they rename the RX350h to 400h aswell?

At least the V6 is coming back to the RX but at a hefty price. I would get the TX 550h+ but wish Lexus would put a 3-person bench in the middle row of the 550h+ variant.

RX 350
RX 350h - discontinue most likely

Oh yes absolutely. The lack of a 7 seat configuration is a huge dealbreaker for a lot of people. I dont really understand the point of the 500h but I think it will stay. I also wouldnt be surprised if the RX goes hybrid only and kills the 350h.
