Lexus to Release 65-Foot Luxury Yacht in 2019

Lexus has announced plans to release a premium yacht incorporating the design of last year’s Sport Yacht concept. This wild news was delivered by Toyota executive vice president Shigeki Tomoyama at the Japan International Boat Show:

“Based on our amazing experiences in engineering, building, testing and showing the Lexus Sport Yacht concept last year, we’ve decided to take the next bold step of producing an all-new larger yacht that builds on the advanced nature of the concept while adding more comfort and living space,” Tomoyama said.

“We plan to start sales in the U.S. in the latter half of 2019, with sales in Japan following in the spring of 2020.”

The new yacht will be built by Marquis-Larson in Wisconsin, and will be a large 65-foot cruiser with “luxury staterooms below deck and entertaining space for up to 15 guests”.

Here’s a photo of the 65-foot Sea Ray L650 Fly for some context:

Specifications, pricing and other details of the 65-foot yacht will be announced at a later date.

Too much effort into something that not going to be produced
Twin LC V8s are only good for 49 MPH in the water? That's crazy.

One of many Behind the Scenes Clips...This was an extremly high level event with Aiko Toyoda in attendance. It was an honor being there and it was incredible to be given full access to the #lexuslens event.

We got to about 32 knots in it...I'll post the video riding in it this weekend. It tops out around 43 knots....

This morning I was invited to an exclusive shoot with it in Miami with the LC. I'll post that soon as well. The Lexus Sport Yacht Concept will then make its way to California then off to Japan.

This murdered me.

Have to say, the yacht was a very cool launch and part of a very interesting event. I'm writing up my coverage, and I can safely say it won't be for everyone -- Lexus went all-out for a very specific audience, and I think it was excellent.

Don's hair needs to be red ...
Paul Williamsen was explaining the engine to me so I decided to start recording! You get some cool inside info on what they did to make this work.

Indeed, it has already arrived in Japan, where Forbes' (and sometime Kaizen Factor Asia Editor) Bertel Schmitt received his own invitation to check out the Lexus Sports Yacht. The most notable revelation: while the current 42-foot one-off is not bound for production, a larger 60-foot superyacht version, with more powerful engines, may well be built. The article even includes a rendering of what that might look like:

A report suggests Lexus will proceed with 60-foot yacht based on recent concept.

If they retire the GX and GS to build a MF'ing yacht, I'm going to become a Kia fanboy. Mark my words.

This is so exciting. And when Lexus decides there will be a Superyacht. It means more LUXURY to be considering. I just can't wait for this.
Gotta have a spindle grille then.
When Lexus built the 60 foot and then said...
That is a beautiful rendering.....

Toyota's marine division would handle the engineering so it's not like building this would prevent them from making a new GS F or something. I say if they can make it look that good, go for it. And offer a program where you can get your new Lexus delivered somewhere on the coast and take a ride on the boat.
I think this goes along with Lexus recent venture into becoming more of a "luxury lifestyle" brand rather than just a luxury car brand. It started 4-5 years back when Lexus introduced their Intersect by Lexus multi-use lounge in Tokyo, Dubai, and New York (speaking of which, has the NY one opened yet?) And then again with their short films, Lexus Design Awards, Lexus carbon fiber bikes, and then these uber-luxurious yatchs.

To me, they are making all the right moves with these marketing efforts. Their sedan tiers strategy on the other hand...

I agree. I think this is Toyota Motor Corp's means to diversify their luxury portfolio where cars in 20 years may very well be a commodity.
very impressive. I must add that all of your posts were as much fun to read as the original post about the event. a Nice entertainment to start my day! thanks Mike for the videos!
