The Toyota Research Institute in Massachusetts has released a video detailing their advancements in automated driving:
There are two technologies on display here, Chauffeur and Guardian:
- Guardian is a driver-assist system that augments existing safety technology — monitoring the environment around the vehicle, alerting the driver to potential hazards, and stepping in to assist with crash avoidance when necessary.
- Chauffeur is Toyota’s version of Level 4/5 autonomy, where all vehicle occupants are passengers.
